  1. The first table is a 2008 SL-1210 Mk5 that I found in a pawn shop in 2010. It was missing some parts so I sent it to KAB and it came back with mods and like new. I told my self that I would never get rid it. To stay true to my word I ordered a SL-1210GR with a Nagaoka MP-200. It only took 8 months to get. I have more expensive turntables, but I sure like these. They are the M1 Abrams of turntables. How much better could the G model be? Lately I have been on a isolation kick. I have experimented with spikes, springs, foam and cork. Now I am compilating putting some KEF bookshelf speakers on stands on top of some powered subwoofers.
  2. You may check the speaker binding screw post on the offending speaker. Are they loose?
  3. I use these springs under some butcher blocks to isolate some turntables. I don't see why they wouldn't work on stacked Advents. 4. Yes, yes they do sound great. AR91 boards with upgraded switches, binding post, capacitors and resisters.
  5. Just went to look and somebody already had bought them.
  6. In my opinion the 12 watt resisters would probably be fine. You can parallel two of the .56 ohm which would yield .28 ohms at 24 watts. Also fine.
  7. These are my favorite resisters to use on my AR speaker recaps. A little expensive but the quality is there. https://www.partsconnexion.com/MILLS-68107.html Or you could use two of these in parallel https://www.partsconnexion.com/MILLS-66130.html
  8. I have some AR 10pi woofers that I need to clean up. I will experiment with Toluene and Citrus stripper. Will pick up some Acetone and Nitrol Thinner.
  9. Those 10PI’s are really nice. I like your stands, they match the finish of your cabinets perfectly.
  10. I am assuming that the 044 midrange found in the AR58S is more in line with the 032 dome midrange. The difference being the black waveguide. My only problem I have encountered with any of these three midranges is pushed in domes. My appreciation for these 3 and 4 way speakers never yielding, because we tend to live our life’s in the midrange.
  11. You do have the correct 200038-0 tweeters. One of the best sounding cone tweeters I have come across. If you are looking for replacement woofers they were used in some other models. The AR28S and the AR18B I believe. If you can find a pair of Rock Partners they will have the Tonegen 1210037 woofers which will work just fine. The Rock Partners will also have the 1210038 Tonegen tweeters which can be back up replacements. Here they are the on the left and the AR USA made ones on the right. It looks like you 5uf cap has been replaced because all of mine came with a Unicon electrolyte. I used a Dayton 5.1 and binding post from Parts Express to replace those spring clips.
  12. I am also perplexed by these woofers. They remind me of Tonegen 1210037-2A woofers but that label dose not belong and the terminal plate is different along with the dust cap. I am a big fan of the AR18S and own half a dozen examples. Here is a 200037 woofer and a Tonegen 1210037. To me they sound identical.
  13. I would just push it back a bit and install the new capacitor in front of it.

    My ARs

Here are my rebuilt AR91 crossovers installed in my AR58S speakers. I too am a fan of the AR 3a sound so I run the tweeters at -6db. I listen to three different systems (not including the cars) and I find myself spending more time with these AR58S almost everyday.
  15. Another welcome to CSP, OLDGEEZER. I have had a pair of TSW-510's in my collection for a two years now. As you can see below one of mine has a replacement 10 in woofer on the right. . The original cones were made of a poly material. I believe the woofer part number is 1210074-08 582TNB which was made by Tonegen for AR. The replacement woofer came from AB Tech (no longer around) and has a paper cone. Where are you located? I am in central Indiana. I would be willing to help you re-foam those woofers and midranges if logistically feasible.
  16. PE has your cap. https://www.parts-express.com/speaker-components/crossover-components/crossover-capacitors/metalized-polypropylene-crossover-capacitors/capacitance/16-uF The matching 8uf cap can be found at Madisound.
  17. What you have is what we call OLA (Original Large Advent) though Advent never used this name. For a more detailed discussion about your crossover look at this thread. RTally is right about no mods are really needed. Identify which revision your crossover is and go from there.
  18. If I remember correctly the AR8 was only available in a simulated (vinyl) wood grain finish. Thus holding the price down.
  19. Wow Those look factory fresh. Probably better than to ones the Smithsonian has.
  20. Nice looking Mk1 AR10pi speakers. Those 12 in woofers....Ouch. I would pull them to see if the baffle is still able to accept the truncated AR woofer. It may take some time but I would start patrolling the auction site for the correct A4 woofers. Even A5 woofers which were used in the Mk2 versions. Those egg crate JBL type foam grills are interesting. You have the makings of some very good 10pi speakers. Tons of information available on this site. Peace out LarryinIN
  21. Animal has been around for quite some time now. He sells on eBay and craigslist. I think I have talked with him once about some AR9LS's. I wonder why he doesn't post in this forum. He is defiantly a AR guy.

    Sad news

I considered Robert a friend. He used to live in my town. His advise and ability to provide documentation will be missed. My deepest condolences to his family.
  23. When I re-foamed the midranges on my AR48S speakers I was unaware or I did not pay attention to the paper spacer ring. I glued the new surround to the metal frame. Now I probably don't have the proper cone height. Just when you think you might have some expertise in restoring these speakers authentically you run across new information. I don't know how adversely I have compromised the performance. I remember reading a post about re-foaming 4 in midranges in some AR12's by GD70. Fortunately my 12's came to me with midranges already done. I left the dust caps in place using a tone generator app on my iPhone to center the voice coils. If I ever revisit my AR48S's I may correct the foams. I wonder if you can paint them cream like the originals.
  24. Those have to be birch. The only other blonde veneer offered was Korina, and that grain is totally different. Here are my Korina AR2a's. I think I may have some birch AR 6's that were stained walnut. Those are some rare birds. I would keep the lacquer finish restoring them. I am jealous.
