  1. Yes I did order the 20 count lambswool. If you go to the Wichelt website they list it. You have to order it from one of there preferred retailers. I chose a shop in Minnetonka MN (Stichville USA). The owner called me and said they have not received the 20 count yet, but she had a yard of the 18 count lambswool so that's what I got. If you look around at various Cross Stich stores you might find it. Since then I have found more 18 count. It would be interesting to get ahold of some 20 count for comparison.
  2. Nice blonde cabinets. Have you looked at the drivers yet. Which midrange do they have?
  3. Gaston I have a pair of English made AR 12's which may be the same veneer as yours. It had after market woofers that were installed with some kind of gasket sealer and I had the same damage when I removed them. I stabilized the damaged particle board with Zpoxy a epoxy recommended by member GD70 who is a expert on veneer repairs such as you are working on. I used q-tips to keep the epoxy out of the T-nut holes. Here they are with the correct woofers installed with gasket tape. Good luck on your AR11'b project. Looking great already.
  4. RaRa sent me this 1962 Edgar Villchur book several years ago. I tried to read and understand it, but I am just a regular guy. Did not know who Henry Kloss was till my father bought two pairs of Large Advents in the very early 1970's. Went with him a few years later to check out a Advent Tri Beam. First large screen TV I remember seeing. Henry was a visionary and a great marketer. If his name was associated with it you might want to check it out.
  5. The new KLH company headquarters is less than 5 miles from my house. I would like to hear them compared to my originals. I bet they are better. The 2 grand price includes the steel stands. They have veneer and grill cloth options. When compared to the price of L-100 Century's they are a bargain. Samsung and Harman might have to reconsider the price on the JBL's. Do I need another pair of speakers? No Do I have room for more speakers? No Would I like to hear these in my family room? Yes
  6. What tweeter did you use? I would of used these dome Advent copies or looked for the original fried egg tweeters used. https://www.simplyspeakers.com/advent-replacement-tweeter-p85c00019.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwqcKFBhAhEiwAfEr7zTqNFEFexKYYxuQc2B_9-CZSDo0is6gfWw1ISQ7HhOjeQmHj6TvNLBoCnn8QAvD_BwE
  7. I get 24 threads per inch.
  8. Mike 123 Stitch does not list it yet, so three days ago I ordered it from Wichelt.com. Problem is that it takes 10-20 days for them to process the order. I will post comparison photos when I get it.
  9. I got that last piece in the mail today. Might be enough to do a pair of AR7's or AR18's. Looks like its time to search around for a alternative to this 18 count lambs wool linen. Problem is that unless the material is actually in hand it is almost impossible to tell from a computer monitor what it is really like.
  10. I run my 9's with one of these Crown XLS2502 Drive Core amps. I know it is a pro amp but it is crystal clear and deadly silent. I have never had the fan turn on. Somewhere around 700 watts per channel at four ohm's. All this for less than $700.00. And here's the kicker, this amp is 2 ohm stable.
  11. Cat your post got me paranoid. I bought some 18 count lambs wool from 123 Stitch last winter for a upcoming restoration. Had to put on my reading glasses to check. I have had nothing but good experiences with 123 stitch. My only issue with them is that they ship the fabric folded. I immediately put it on a roll to let it relax. I have even got the iron out a couple times. I also source grill fabric from the Dorr Mill in New Hampshire and Q Components in Ontario. They actually ship with the fabric rolled up in a long box.
  12. Wow this thread is 15 yeas old. I have a pair of TSW510 speakers with mismatched woofers. The one on the left is the original poly cone and on the right a AB Tech replacement. The original reads 3.7 ohms. The AB Tech replacement reads 7 ohms. Believe it or not they don't sound too bad together. If anyone has a original poly cone woofer for the TSW510 please let me know.
  13. Ok I am familiar with the AR48S and AR48B models and have seen pictures of the AR48BX and AR48BXi models. The AR48LS is new to me. Could you post pictures of your speakers with the grills off? I always like seeing un familiar AR speakers.
  14. Those Sprague electrolytic caps look more like filter caps than crossover caps.
  15. What about the tiny wire leads from the voice coils of front wired AR3/3a tweeters and midranges. What gauge are those? Blue Jeans Cable and SVS will make you any kind of speaker cable you want. I made my own from Parts Express binding post blocks.
  16. I have a set of those I purchased for my AR10pi's. They are nice, the correct open pore foam, but the bevels are not the same as the originals I have on my 14's and 12's. Last summer I made two pairs of wood frame grills for one of my 11's and the other one for J Kents restoration of some 11's you can see on page two of this post. I wish I had your tweeters for my first generation MkI 10pi's have the later MkII black dome tweeters.
  17. Both are great classic AR speakers. I see you have the early version of the 10pi's with the cream colored tweeter domes. They were just talking about those a couple post down. Do you have the foam grills for them?
  18. These cabinets also have a different size grill.
  19. I love that cabinet style. I have AR5's and 2ax's with euro cabinets. Your 3a's are fantastic.
  20. Hi Jon, It looks like you have done a excellent restoration on these 2ax's. Glad you are enjoying them. A question and observation. Did you save the original tweeters? Possibly one day you might want to get them rebuilt to like new condition. The woofers repaired by Millersound appear to have filled fillet (Boston type) surrounds. These are the surrounds I prefer to use. Why not get the best performance out of your woofers. Bill does nice work.
  21. Roy might have to confirm this, but I think I remember him saying that minor ripples in cloth surrounds should not be a big concern. I had a pair of KLH Model six woofers, one with yellow surrounds and the other surround black. I carefully used Toluene with small foam brush's and paper towels to remove the black back to the yellow color. Then I applied an new coat of sealant. I don't remember it having a adverse effect on the surround glue, but then again it was very careful and went slow.
  22. Hello Alverman I can't tell you what woofers came originally in those AR3a speakers not knowing the serial numbers off hand, but you are probably right that they are not the originals. Those appear to be Tonegen replacements. Not a bad woofer at all and they do very well as replacements for the ceramic AR3a woofers. You can see and read about the various AR3a versions here. http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/library/acoustic_research/original_models_1954-1974/original_models_schematicss/restoring_the_ar-3a/restoring_the_ar-3a_full_pd.pdf The overall appearance of these AR3a's is very nice.
