  1. Appreciate the offers guys. A buddy of mine located 2 near me. Thanks though
  2. I have a buzzy mid. Need a nuther one. Thanks for playing!
  3. I tested both 2ax's after replacing the mids-pots w/ new Jkent units and concluded ONE of the mids is Buzzy. I have never disassembled one of these but i want to look for any type of cone separation? Or has this old thing just had enough?
  4. Ok. I often wondered if bench testing would reveal anomalies, and given the semi-fuzzy sounds i get from my 2ax mids I'll give that a try. Lag-27 for source & drive with a sx 636. Yes?
  5. Thank you Mr Roy. I manged to finish the job with some success. Tweets sound fine but mids pots seem wonky even though I cleaned & polished everything in there. That was 2 yrs ago. Mids sound a bit fuzzy and moreso when fiddling with the pot shafts. I have 2 new ones for those.
  6. Found this. And mine look crossed like the image.
  7. Guys, Acquired some OEM tweets & removing the HiVi Q1Rs. Problem is, what indicates POS/NEG on the driver itself? The small piece of tape? (that was painted black a million years ago)? Does it matter?
  8. Anything out there these days?
  9. I restored a pair of AR2ax's and seem to have a buzzy mid, and seems to occur in specific freqs, mostly on some vocals. I'm trying to find how to test, investigate and identify the problem. Any methods out there? Anything like audio tracks on CD? Installed are HiViQ1r tweeters (RoyC mod), OEM pots in really nice condition, new caps, etc. EDIT: I DO have a BK Precision function generator.
  10. Pete, would that be Medium Weight Oyster? The pair of 2Ax i bought have someone's old drapery material on em, so even a good cleaning isn't an option. Medium Weight Oyster Linen fabric - Y0400OY060 - Ulster Linen
  11. Searched with no real luck. I scored another pair of 4Xs with nice drivers, etc..But the cabs are water damaged, excessive swelling that isn't repairable. I initially thought of these as a stand-by set/parts for my main 4Xs but they sound so nice I'm just going to rebuild them. The sides and the top & bottom look like birch (from the inside) the front & back definitely some kind of particle board. I was thinking about using cabinet grade plywood without any veneers. Maybe. It depends on what my cabinet-guy (nephew) advises.
  12. Submitted my PE order today for Jantzen caps for the Olas & some ARs.. first ever woofer refoam seemed really simple. We'll see soon enough. Or hear actually.
  13. Found another pair for a "back- up" but the cabs have water damage/swelling. Not repairable..
