Spin that center disc 90° on the mid pot, it might be usable. Position the corrosion opposite the ends of the wire.

It should yield a clearer sound, yes. Those black/red caps in particular can be WAY out of tolerance.

Quite likely it is a result of forum software upgrades. I'm guessing the file is actually somewhere on the forum but not where the link points. That's a shame; I've seen 8 and 10 year old threads that were trashed, but this is from 2014 and suggests institutional memory here has advanced Alzheimer's. -

I don't have links yet. I have no way to determine where the images are stored. In the meantime, here's the index sans links in a Word document. There was earlier discussion of the drawings, and Robert_S pointed out some mistakes. His list has been integrated. AR_drawings.doc

I'd like to post the index file. Images should already be on disc (or server) here. So, the plan is to edit the index and point to those files (assuming admins here are okay with this). I don't have their location ATM.

There was a point in time (mid 2008?) when the index of the AR drawings was an html file (searchable), and the individual .TIFs were posted (~1.8 gig). I have all that on disc. I was thinking about putting them up on my web site, or even posting them here again. I don't know why Flash was used. The first iteration of the drawings here was basically unusable. Some of the regulars might have a better idea. The grilles on these betray nothing identifiable to me. Maybe you could get a shot of the labels.

Welcome! I know squawdoosh about badging, but I know a little about early AR speakers. My opinion: good choice! My favorite so far is the AR3a. It was such a revelation (after 20 years of the AR2 and derivatives) that I went back through my music library just to hear what I'd been missing (mostly that lowest octave, more or less).

Kent, you are quite welcome! I knew if it could light up faded auto side molding (which nothing else but paint will do), I suspected it could help you. I hadn't considered using it on vinyl siding, but it apparently shines up quite a few different kinds of surfaces.

Kent, for the knobs, there's a product called Wipe New that might restore their look. It's basically a thin acrylic clear coat for restoring the finish on bumpers and cladding. I've used a similar product to restore fogged plastic headlights. Here's a Consumer Reports test (on a car :-))

Ben's list puts the 12" speakers first, 10" speakers last. Models Four and Seven are also 12" models. They are the earliest models, glued in drivers, etc, and pretty scarce. The Four does sound really good, better than the Seventeen.

Yes, oxalic acid will remove staining. I say 'staining' because it may not remove all the discoloration. I had an AR2 cabinet with a pretty serious stain, and I was able to get most of it out. It's available as crystals (I had to order it online), or in many deck cleaning solutions, which is likely available locally.

I don't think the Research X speakers are considered 'classic' I had some CB-10s, and they didn't measure up to my AR2s, AR2AXs, or KLH 17s. I didn't find much information, either, which suggests they're pretty scarce.

The XP font file is times.ttf (and timesbd.ttf, timesi.ttf, and timesbi.ttf). Arial didn't help because the line that was screwy on your system called for the Times font.

Some of the fonts used weren't embedded: ArialMT and TimesRomanPSMT. I'm not seeing the same problem.
