  1. Nothing on searching here, but these might be a good starting point. https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/au-777-help-selecting-replacement-parts-please.997639/ https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/leestereos-restoration-and-upgrade-of-a-sansui-au-777a.860863/
  2. Yes, a foam surround woofer and the 3/4" tweeter is the late version.
  3. One channel's tweeter cuts out at lower volumes. It will stay on if I crank the volume. Not an ideal situation. I'd like to check the driver, but I can't figure out how to remove the grille frame w/o destroying the cabinet- it's that tightly glued (or whatever). I'd prefer not to cut the cloth, but if that's the answer...
  4. List and links to drawings- http://www.aphenos.net/electronics/speakers/klh/AR_Drawings_.html
  5. parts-express.com is a good source. Their Dayton brand is generally a good choice. 100 volts is fine.
  6. The sealant offered here by RoyC or the ebay seller is the only one to use. Lots of threads over the years covering this.
  7. I'm sure you know this, but is it worth considering replacement of the dual mids with the 2ax midrange? Upgrade the sound and address the dispersion issue at the same time.
  8. There have been several forum software upgrades that at least destroyed message threading and links to attachments to the point some threads are basically unreadable. It's possible that messages weren't just reported out of order.
  9. Here's an index to the drawings: http://www.aphenos.net/electronics/speakers/klh/AR_Drawings_.html, with a link on the left to click for each. There are several drawings of the 200003, but none that give measurements of the masonite ring. Measuring my own, looks like about 278mm OD, 252mm ID, 3mm thick 10.94" x 9.92" x .12"

    KLH Woofer 116808

klhaudio.com sells a Kendall model, though it looks different from what you have. Why do the woofers need replacement? It looks like the surrounds are blown. If that's the problem, surrounds can be replaced.

    Access to AR Drawings

Okay, did a little work on this... front page of my site: http://aphenos.net/ drawings index with links to drawings: http://www.aphenos.net/electronics/speakers/klh/AR_Drawings_.html

So here are both links: Index: https://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Board/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=20559 Drawings: http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/library/acoustic_research/special_sections/drawings/drawings/ Those could replace the post by Ken Kantor in the Library that leads to a non-functional Flash file. The index could have a link on the same page that has links to the images. At some point I'd like to make an index that has direct links to the drawings.

    KLH serial number decode?

They are most likely from the 1971-72 time period
  16. I listed the three models as equivalent, and what I've read in Audiokarma suggests that's true for practical purposes. You commented in that thread, but I couldn't tell if you noticed audiojones' statement that KLH went to the more common (smaller) magnet sometime into the production run of Twelves. Of course, measuring the two types would reveal the truth.

Briliant! I've not been able to find the images here. Here's a direct link to the index. https://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Board/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=20559
  18. Someone else in another forum suggested this for switch replacement: https://www.mouser.com/ProductDetail/CK/A30305RNZQ/?qs=h7H1bHRqGz%2BI/XAEF%2B2b7A== This is included for reference, or if you/someone wants to bypass them legend says switches are set at ccw and that they turn cw. so here are connections made at the three positions IMO mids ccw 12-1 4-5 8-9 (decrease) middle 12-2 4-6 8-10 (normal) cw 12-3 4-7 8-11 (increase) tweets ccw 12-1 4-5 (decrease) middle 12-2 4-6 (normal) cw 12-3 4-7 (increase)
  19. This guy sells what seems like 80%+ of the vintage gear on the Richmond list, usually at full retail. Twelves are nice speakers, you just need to decide if they're that nice. Never dealt with him, no idea if he'll haggle.
  20. Can't help you on xos, but production (or at least availability) dates for the Five went through 1977, according to buyer's guides of the time. Same for the Six, Nine, Seventeen, Thirty One, and Thirty Two.
  21. If you weren't aware, Model Five and Twelve tweeters are equivalent. Model Six, Seventeen, Twenty, Thirty, and Thirty Three will fit, but they have different voicing. I haven't compared the two variations side-by-side, so I don't know how much difference there is.

    OIL CAPS?

the latest I've been able to verify PIO caps is about system # 18xxx A few people have been able to knock out the front baffle of the early systems from the back and save the grill cloth. There are apparently a couple of screws or some kind of fastener on each side of the front about midway down. Either way, entry from the back isn't all that difficult. I put a pair of Fours on saw horses, terminal plate down, to chip out the epoxy tub. All the shrapnel fell on the floor, not in the cabinet.
