  1. That is great to know, are those also 4 ohm?
  2. We had a turnout of about 40 people, we almost always have excellent turnouts. I had a fairly bad coughing cold that day and only dropped off my speakers. We welcome guests to any meeting and to sample in case you're interested in joining. The dues are not much, IIRC $35 annually, and you certainly get more than enough food for the price. The cookout and Holiday party have great cooked meals, all the others are cold cuts but lunch is always served. More info in case anyone is interested in joining: http://cas.ctaudio.org/Welcome/frequently-asked-questions We have one guy from upstate NY who might be willing to carpool. Tom Fine who is the son of the husband and wife team that produced Mercury Living Presence recordings is a fairly new member and has been giving excellent presentations on the history of recording. We usually have a member presentation or reps from industry give presentations at meetings.
  3. I'm fairly sure that Carl (RIP) tested them and they the most important parameter Fc in system was way off. Get OLA or NLA woofers from ebay.
  4. @jkent would you like to bring your AR-3a s to an audio cook out and show them off?
  5. They'd like you to bring your 3 's if you are still interested, bring a friend or two if you'd like. We have excellent turnouts, I expect 30 to 40 people. I'll PM you if you are interested.
  6. How far is it for you? They really want 3a s.
  7. The Connecticut Audio Society (CAS) is having their annual cookout and the Audio theme is to listen to about 10 of the most popular vintage speakers. We need a restored pair of AR-3a's and if anyone has a pair in good restored working order and would like to show them off and attend please message me - we would all appreciate it very much. The event is on Saturday June 1 in Westport CT.
  8. Great info, thanks very much! How about that they are still in business.
  9. Thanks for the info Tom, do you know any more details about how spiders are made?
  10. It is always good to hear that a person is getting so much enjoyment from their system, that is what it is all about.
  11. I've been wondering lately if this EPI/Genesis woofer replacement would work well as a replacement for the AR 8" woofer: http://www.humanspeakers.com/e/parts/001.htm I also wonder how close they are to the original woofers from EPI.
  12. Jim on AK posted: The next event will be at the same location on SATURDAY OCTOBER 19th. Since historically the Fall event doesn't get as many participants we'll be fine as far as crowding and table availability is concerned. As mentioned, we'll be instituting a one table per participant policy. Frankenfest is an audio fest/swap meet that has been going on for many years originally hosted by Frank (RIP) in Clinton MA. It is organized by people on AudioKarma but we need more people so I am posting here also. These are the general rules, $5 fee for main person rest of the family is no charge: We have once again secured the American Legion Lodge in Sutton, MA for Saturday October 19th, 2019. We have the room for 12 noon until 5 PM though "organizers" can show up early to help "setup". The location is just off of route 146 south of the Mass Pike (I90) - so this should be a little bit closer for most of us versus Clinton. Dudley-Gendron American Legion 156 Boston Rd Sutton, MA 01590 Here's a link to a map: https://www.google.com/maps/place/A...24bd01d4435f98!8m2!3d42.1598864!4d-71.7401907 There will be an Audiokarma "Barter Town" thread listing gear that people plan to bring but you have to subscribe to have access to it. It is usually created a few months before the date. For sellers: As we saw last time there are tables available. We should bring extension cords and power strips. They have an ATM in the bar (could be dangerous, I know).
  13. Dirt cheap option if you can make an adapter plate, chosen only because it is an 8 ohm metal dome. I've never seen measurements of this on so who knows if it is any good: https://www.parts-express.com/dayton-audio-dc25t-8-1-titanium-dome-tweeter--275-045 Ideally, you'd want to match the impedance as close as you can, Fc, and passband flatness/shape.
  14. Did they go open circuit or how did they fail? Some people are able to repair dome tweeters if it is just a broken wire.
  15. The Boston Acoustics A-100 for a well thought out 10" 2-way reaches into the low 40s on bass: http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Board/index.php?/topic/10477-boston-acoustics-a100-versions/&tab=comments#comment-123006 And the A-150 for a 10" 3-way.
  16. Built to a price point yes of course and not a very good optimization IMO. There are 10" woofer systems that reach to the low 40s, and in the 2ax you pay for a 3way, Steve has also commented about the 2ax.
  17. If you look at the crossover schematic for the AR-5 you might notice that the woofer inductor is much larger than in the 2-ax which provides much more baffle step. I'm not surprised that they sound so much better. I've spoken before about how I dislike the 2-ax so again not surprised by your observations.
  18. It has been working great without any further issues. Here is the plate that I designed. I've printed 3 of these and they all came out just fine:
  19. This printer comes with a test dog to print, it did fine for the first 80% but became stringy for the last 20% which indicated under feeding. There is a known issue with the feed tube pulling out or not being fully seated. This guy shows how to fix it and suggests about $3 worth of upgrade parts but I'm pretty sure mine already has them: I fixed it without any new parts.
  20. Here is another opinion on the Ender 3 with concerns about the unit to unit consistency:
  21. That inductor is across the tweeter, follow the yellow wires to black (ground) and white tweeter wire on the selector switch.
  22. Here is an interesting video on baking the PLA part for more strength, any chemists here who might comment on the validity of this for ordinary PLA?
  23. I followed this build video and it went quite smoothly, it is now printing a test: Also followed his other video on how to level the bed.
  24. If they were my speakers, I would cut out the "net" on the inside of the port tube opening. About all it is good for is keeping mice out but it is not good for deep bass output.
