    Used to Work at Cizek

This is a great thread, I wonder why we don't have people who worked at AR and Advent doing a similar thing.
  2. Just wanted to let you know that the Sherwood AP-7020 Preamplifier has a built in 2-way active crossover that might be of interest.
  3. I finally have a pair with green tweeters and also have 12uF to 1 ohm/5W resistor with 8uF across it, a light blue dot type inductor to ground (across the tweeter) is .36 mH/1.1ohm DCR. The green 2.5" square (small) magnet tweeter is 3.2 ohms DCR.
  4. Edited my post about the NHT Classic 3 for those who cannot remember from my previous posts that the plan is to add EQ as needed to get whatever is chosen as the target AR voicing. I also mentioned adding an AR woofer that seems to have been ignored, some people need to read with more attention. Actually, I should just put ar_pro on ignore.
  5. Carl has passed may he RIP. You have a woofer needing a recone?
  6. Or, probably more affordable the NHT Classic 3 as the top end, and one AR-11 woofer only as bass, per side for the usual AR, or two per side for AR-9 type performance. And you get a dome UMD! Edit: Add EQ as required to get that vintage AR sound, you can assume this for just about anything that I post in this thread.
  7. Almost forgot to mention the NHT 3.3 and EQ it to get the AR sound: https://www.stereophile.com/floorloudspeakers/1293nht/index.html Or try to like it as is.
  8. Gerry, I think you got those flipped, the T1000 that I have drawn above is series between the woofer and midrange. I've already traced out the T1030 pictured and it is not series. I don't like the series connection due to the interaction that you mention. Nice work by the way, I really admire the updated versions that compete with much more expensive speakers.
  9. The T930 II with the 6" midrange over tweeter reminds me very much of the PSB Stratus Gold, they even have similar crossover network designs. PSB's are vented and VERY well done. Interesting that in searching for a picture I found a tweeter over mid version that I'd never seen before, so they did the flip also: This speaker uses a custom 6.5" Vifa mid that is very similar to one off the shelf and the very common aluminum dome tweeter from the 1990s with a custom faceplate.
  10. Charles, I bought both of the T1030 crossovers figuring that the circuit is common to one that I use and the inductors are probably close to what I use - I can wind them up or down for whatever I need. But if you want them I'll measure them and then we can work out a deal. One thing I noticed about the T1000 XO is that zobels are used where most designers are able to avoid them, the T1030 doesn't use them. I like the T1030 XO better.
  11. I'd use Bennic NPE caps to replace all of the NPE types, the film cap is probably fine. I can measure T&S parameters but I don't have any of the drivers. Gerry says that the drivers are the same, yet they don't look the same? The T1000 woofers and mids look like Peerless (maybe the old CC line) and those in the T1030 look custom to BA, perhaps they cloned the performance? There's a pair of T1030's for sale in FL that I want, anyone making a trip from FL to the North East any time soon who can pony express them for me, LOL?
  12. People do not want to believe the research, there is no point in trying to convince them. I'd keep the lower limit just do not expect a small speaker to perform like a big one - common sense. The two speakers need to have similar large signal capability. I probably don't know the current market well enough, perhaps the Infinity Primus 363 and if they MUST have sealed plug the ports and EQ to get the bass back. Add a sealed sub crossed very low if you need more bass. I don't see any issue using speakers that are 20-30 years old rather than 50 and just having some work done one them even if you have to pay for it.
  13. That was reported in the AES ages (decades) ago, IIRC it was from research at JBL. AR people believe that acoustic suspension bass is different/unique so that is why I chose a BA speaker, one that I happen to like.
  14. Buy Boston Acoustics t-1030 3-way, refoam and recap them, EQ them to sound like ARs.
  15. Thanks Charles, but if you can believe it I just bought a pair of T1030 XO's on ebay a few hours ago, wish I'd seen your offer. I notice that the T830, T930 have series II and III versions were these aligned with the T1030 logically or T1000? Next question of course is if there were series II and III of the T1030? Picture of T1030 AC001494 from ebay advertisement, I traced it out from the pictures but need the XO to measure the inductors:
  16. I updated the schematic with corrections.
  17. Frank, I wonder if the Phase Linear amps do not like the load of just the top or bottom of the AR9's. Hate to see another or newly rebuilt amp fail again.
  18. I agree Tom, the upper chamber under the dome is vented, through the three slots to the air chamber where the back of the voice coil is.
