    AR 5 caps

The link isn't good on my puter and McAffe don't like it either...
  2. I have a pair of old 501s. The wise guy I bought them from neglected to tell me they were loaded with other than Bose drivers; so you know what they sound like, certainly NOT 501s! They are available for free to anyone that wants them, you pay all shipping & handling (cover my costs of boxing) UPS can come by the house and pick them up, so were talking about the packaging) PM me if you're interested, btw I live in the Puget Sound (Greater Seattle)area of the USA.

    AR 5 caps

Do the volts and type make a difference?
  4. I have a pair of Model AR 5 speakers and I'd like to recap them. I was inside them summer before last but lost my list of caps and their specs, is there a reference I could look at? I tried going down the list of drawings, the file names are numbers; without a key or cross reference you have to go down the entire list to find the drawing you need.
  5. Thanks! Are they still around?
  6. I while back I was exchanging info on rebuilding my AR 200043-0 tweeters, would that man still be around? I can't find the posts we shared in my account, I think I was gone too long now and all I have for site history is pretty current.
  7. Are those square magnet drivers 20001-1?

    My ARs

Guys; You all have been such a help to me! I really appreciate this site! I find so much info and you guys are so knowledgeable! It's a great place for learning and sharing the wonder of the AR family. I wanted to show you my ARs, In the photo bottom up we have... AR 58S, AR 5, AR 17 (with original foam face) and it you look in the middle of the shelf you'll find the latest pair of 17s I scored on Ebay! I have 2 Pioneer SX 780s (they need fixing, is any body up to the job?) and I'd like to get a 3rd SX 780 or better! I have a LOT of musical gear (instruments and amplifiers) and it's time to simplify my life. I had a good friend "Robin" was his name'; he came home from Vietnam with a PIONEER 9000 tuner, A Dual (I think) turn table and a 7" Sony reel to reel. He had Coral 7 driver 6 way pair of speakers; man those babies put you in the studio holding guitar picks for John Fogarty and his brother Tom while they recorded "Born On The Bayou", Green River, Bootleg, and Pagan Baby! I got into the military years later and heard the AR 17s with those Coral speakers as my reference. I like ARs...
  10. So 5.7 on the minus side and to 6.3mF on the + side.... Just sayin' .... That's most kind of you!
  11. I can't read any markings on the resistors do you know the value on them? I know resistors are rated in Ohms and watts....
  12. Parts connection has no 3 or 6mF capacitors that I could find, near as I can tell no one has a 3mF@50VDC so far as I know. I have seen some with higher voltages but until now I didn't know how high I could go. That's~!
  13. So how far off can I be from the 6 mfd 50 volts axial electrolytic capacitor? Does it have to be audio grade, axial, what should it be made of? What happens if you use a 6mfd /100 volt capacitor?
  14. Thanks you guys! It's nice to see this site isn't a ghost town! Does anyone know where I can get caps for my 17s and 58b? I know I can paralle 2 caps to get the value I want but WHERE?
  15. I used to be able to see them, now I can't, I've been using Firefox for a long time never had any problem. The info I'm looking for is the resistors and capacitors (type and polarity) used in the crossovers in AR 58s and AR 17. If anyone has a source for these parts that would just be icing on the cake! TIA dna
  16. Or we could say "diagonally spaced"!
  17. I just scored a pair (serial number consecutive!) from Ebay, they have the original P/N 20001 woofers in them. I bought a set back in 19 and 79? '78 or 79 I donno. I have them, my dogs ripped out the cones in the woofers I kept them around until about 19 years ago, I was ignorant, I called a place to buy new drivers they said they had AR replacement drivers; I was suspicious so I didn't buy them; turns out it was "simply speakers" and their stuff. I bought a pair of AR woofers on ebay (I can't recall the P/N now but they sound pretty good, I'm still on the lookout for some 20001 though. The fast was to ID these original woofers is (so far as I know) that they have square magnets. I am in the process of re-foaming this later pair. I have them ready for the glue and foam I just have to do it. I got the foam from Springfield speakers.com though Ebay, at the Springfield speakers web site they have a video (on youtube as well) on how to re-foam your speaker. They also tell you how to recenter the cone in the voice coil. They offer a wire with an head set plug that fits your smart phone on one end and a bare pair on the other to the terminals of the speaker. They instruct how to center the cone using a signal generator (they offer web site where to D/L one for your smart phone for free) by using a 50Hz tone.

I just want to replace the caps in both sets of 17s and the 58s; provided the chokes are ok.

    AR 15 and 17

This is the spittin' image to the crossover in my 58s pair.
  20. So as i mentioned in a post earlier today I scored a set of 17s with original drivers, the woofers need to be refoamed for sure, Given the age I'm sure the caps need replacing. Can you help me with the values and a source please?
  21. Hi guys! I haven't been around for a long while it's good to be back! I scored another pair of 17s! The first pair I acquired didn't have the original 8" drivers, this latest pair do! Square magnets and all! Yeah they need new foam, that's on order. My brother has told me I can HAVE his AR 15 as they need foam and he doesn't wanna fool with it. Do you guys have any idea what these models generally (ball park) going for? Doug Update: They are serial number pair!
  22. You can use bondo to fix the busted corner or precision saw it and glue in a replacement piece, I'd bondo it and apply vinyl veneer as matching as possible. I have the same silver ring around my tweeters....I wonder if those are factory replacements because the P/N on mine doesn't match the OEM P/N.
  23. Left to right, pics 1 & 2 from 58s so far as I know the original P/N is 100051 this has P/N 200043-0. Pis 3,4,5 all same driver measures around 5". This is supposed to be a 20001-1 or -0 8" if it really is a 20001 it's what belongs in my 17s I don't think it's an authentic AR.
