  1. Thanks Tom, as always your interventions are always interesting, every time they add small pieces to the history of Acoustic Research ... we hope you can finally publish the book I have been waiting for !! It is long, complicated and burdensome, I think many of us could contribute financially if this were a problem and an obstacle. I wish you a splendid 2022, fresh and above all good health. Giorgio.
  2. The AR17 are finished, I cleaned and finished the cabinets, painted an aluminum label (it had small but annoying lack of color) I straightened the dustcaps of the tweeters, one was very badly placed and squashed all around and that of a woofer, I put the new foam on the woofers and here is a preview photo of the result.
  3. Very nice, European cabinet, very nice AR2ax never harassed ... the woofer will have its first refoam, the Pots to be deoxidized and probably the capacitors to be replaced, the teak cabinets look very fine, minimal signs, they will only need some cleaning and new treatment with veneer oil ... the asking price is excellent. You will let us know how it turns out
  4. AR2x washed with a special product and a damp cloth, they received two coats of linseed oil, the gaskets between the speakers and the seats were missing, those of the tweeters, gray I had them in spare, I did instead those of the woofers. I checked the speakers and measured the resistance of the coils, all perfect as per specification, I did not touch the Pots, just turned and placed on the "Normal" point recommended by AR ... after listening I will know if they need revision! I added new tiny Velcro inserts for fixing the grilles, cleaned the AR2x labels and did a nice photo shoot to show the final result. Now the new pair of AR2x will be connected for test to my Marantz PM6a amp and let's see how they sound ... The AR2x renewed:
  5. Sam, I hope your back is okay, moving the Allisons and AR3a's is tiring and challenging.
  6. HERE THEY HERE, THEY ARRIVED A FEW AGAIN AT MY HOUSE. PERFECTLY PACKED MY NEW PAIR OF AR2X. Below the photos of the splendid couple of AR2x after packing and then next to the sisters AR2, AR2a ...
  7. It is nice to read every reference to the history of Acoustic Research and its "men". At the moment there are no other possibilities to enter the library ... we will see in the future. I always read with pleasure any reference or document concerning Acoustic Research, just as I am pleased to have some original paper pieces to consult or read from time to time at my home. I also like the title with reference to Edgar Villchur a lot This will become a nice topic!
  8. Bravo Tom, every added piece increases our knowledge on Acoustic Research and on the capacity and innovation that brilliant minds have introduced with love almost 70 years ago ... objects that still amaze today for how they "interpret and render the sound" now in ours ears, great article! Giorgio.
  9. Even here there is absolute silence ... nothing? No tweeter for my AR7 "replica"? 16 screws and a tweeter ...?
  10. Possible ... absolute silence, no one who has the screws for me? I looked for dealers in Italy, there is something here but I don't know the characteristic measures of step and length (they are with different measures from the European ones in mm.), They are fine for me also in bare steel, not black painted, I can do it to make them same as the original!
  11. Sincerest wishes for a Merry Christmas to all, wishes for good Health and good listening wherever you are. Auguri di buon Natale a tutti... Giorgio
  12. Thanks Robert, this is your last post on our site... the day before we exchanged our views on the AR7... I would like to let you know that even now you have helped me ... I have purchased a splendid pair of AR2x, of which I know the history from the birth of AR2, the evolution with the various steps, I was looking for photos of the evolution of this model in my photographic archive and now I have found two other precious ones ... Ciao e grazie Robert Giorgio
  13. Beautiful restoration, the grilles with fabric canvases in my opinion are fine as well, almost all of my ARs, the ones that have grilles original, they have color differences in pairs, it is normal and denotes originality and aging! By the way, the speaker under the AR6 in the picture ... is it a Model-3 Cizek ?. Have a good listening Giorgio.
  14. Danke! Thanks and best wishes to you and ... good listening ... you have to revive your AR3a if you can before Christmas, they will give warmth to the party and the house, sincerely Giorgio.
  15. Do you also have any of the screws i need for the AR7? They should be common to those of the AR2ax mids! Thank you, help me. Giorgio
  16. Bravo IARrybody, your topic and even that if I remember correctly convinced me to buy the AR91 / 92 crossovers to "soften" the sound of my AR58s too harsh in my ears. In my case, unfortunately, the crossover was of the AR92, so further modification with replacement of the woofer coil and addition of additional capacitor and resistor as in the crossover dedicated to these speakers. Your crossover is well made, the Mundorf capacitors plus the other coupled ones are excellent and well positioned, I really like (I'll do it too) the fixing of the masonite with screws ... I suppose you have interposed two turns of a good liquid sealant to ensure pneumatic and anti-vibration sealing.
  17. No, they are 200053-0, with a diameter of 4" and are used as mediums in AR48b / 58b (round flange with number 200041-0 as mediums in AR48s), then replaced with TNG analogs, 1-200053 .. or as in the case of AR1MS with initials 1-200460. This was to show you the difference between AR58s and AR58b as you asked in the other topic They look like little 200001-1, "universal woofer" in the AR designation, but these are 8" and fit the AR17!
  18. Those tweeters were also on my AR58s, too bright for my taste, others and more experienced than me will be able to show you how to intervene to "tame them", I replaced mine with those of AR91 (AR factory) 200029, much better for mine ear, but still too much. I'm still in the works ... I don't have ten hands ... with the AR58s crossover change to the AR91 / 92 one provided with attenuation with switches on mid and tw at -3 / -6db, then I will better appreciate the sound that will be more like the one further back in this range that the AR3a have.
  19. Here you see the mid / high section of the AR48b, substantially identical to the AR58b (perhaps the resistance of the mid. Is different), see the mid / hi group in front and back. Clearly the AR58s and AR58b do not share the same crossover.
  20. Help me to find a brother... ...He's an orphan ... I don't even need to add a stamp of the country of assembly, already printed at the time by the Italian furniture maker who produced for AR here. Giorgio
  21. When I finish building the AR7 replica pair, I will have 4 AR7 pairs in total! ...Look at the thread in a moment: "AR Tweeter 200005 wanted" ...
  22. Thanks, I've been looking for bargains for years! Too expensive, try to multiply the stocks of screws to get to the 16 I need, add in more shipping, taxes and customs for shipping to Italy, when they come to me they cost more than gold, I'm looking for some good soul here who owns surplus screws ... so I don't have to take out a mortgage !!
  23. Dna, I am, we are lucky ... without going down to the cellar, looking for and opening boxes I found in my photo archive a photo (not mine) of another AR58s crossover, you can clearly see the value of both resistors: one is 22w, 2ohm, the other 22w, 1 ohm. Attached the photo, so we can also compare my AR58s crossover with this one!
  24. ...I need them for my original "AR7 replica" project...
  25. As the title suggests I'm looking for 16 screws to finish my AR7 "Replica" ... I own everything, including new cabinets and new crossover improved (built in Italy with AR era approval) except just the screws! ... and of course a tweeter 200005, already asked in another announcement, thanks to those who will help me at unsupported costs to finish this particular "original replica" project.
