  1. I have a pair of 200014 tweeters, specific for AR17 / 18, with brown cone paper in excellent aesthetic and electrical condition, if you still need it send me a message. Giorgio.
  2. Finally after months of research I found the missing 200005 tweeter, electrically and aesthetically matched to its twin already in my possession! I add photos of the "newcomer": on the right the new tweeter, perfectly similar to the single one I own! They have both dustcaps with minimal dents that I will leave like this, in this case I do not restore I leave them with these minimal defects!
  3. They look very nice, the cabinets also in good condition. A minimum of restoration with replacement of foam, capacitors and cleaning of the Pots and you will have a splendid pair of AR2ax ... also my pair of AR2ax has the grilles with the brown fabric, original and optional variation of the time. Calmly you will find the original metallic labels to complete the aesthetics of the AR2ax pair
  4. The masonite crossover board bears the wording AR91 AR92, but even if common to the two models, the specific one for AR91 has different woofer coils, a capacitor and an additional resistor, all the other components are common to the two models. On my AR58s I mount an AR92 board modified to make it right for AR91 (I used the original AR58s coil on the AR92 board, I have to add the 40uF capacitor and 2 ohm 22watt resistor to replicate the correct AR91 crossover with the AR92 board!
  5. Thanks Genek, I'm not very familiar, but I understand the mechanism and I thank you for your kindness! I can add more photos to accompany these threads or posts.
  6. I will send you the crossover photos to your email address, so the resolution will be better.
  7. Nine months have passed, the cabinets together with their original packaging have been placed in the cellar and in the meantime I have looked for what was missing to make me a working pair of AR7 replica: I have a pair of 200001-1 woofers, the pair of tweeters 200014-3 ( up to now the search for the original brother 200005 has not given results, I will keep it as a spare part for my other AR speakers) which will need to widen the holes, I have the "Italian" crossovers in the photos above (originally modified with the addition of one coil to the woofer!), a pair of AR17 / 18 crossover and a pair of AR4xa early crossover, also with coils for the woofer and the 16 ohm Pollak pot ... I don't know yet which crossover I will insert in the cabinets .. advice well accepted; thanks to JKent who gave me 16 speaker fixing screws that I did not own and also provided me with a splendid pair of original labels, now I own all the components of the AR7, for the grilles I have to decide whether to use the original linen (it comes from a pair of AR3a in surplus), a modern linen equal to the original I own (much lighter than the AR3a one) or the brown canvas always original and supplied by AR at the time as an option (this is a spare surplus that comes from AR2ax) ; to cover the holes next to the tweeters I have some nice Japanese masonite from '72 (it comes from an old National Panasonic turntable that I demolished years ago)! Finally, the sound-absorbing material, ready and stored in a nylon bag, to be weighed and placed in the exact quantity in the cabinets. Even if by now I own everything that makes up the AR7, given my commitments and my slowness in the work, my AR7 replicas will not be finished soon, but I will update the thread during the continuation of the work ... I'm sorry I can't update with photos, but unfortunately I have run out of my available quantity, I only have 900Kb left, useful for about other last 4 photos. Giorgio.
  8. Kent, you did well to keep the AR turntable, this turntable has a unique charm and aesthetic, along with a timeless aesthetic minimalism!
  9. Bravo for the intuition had and for the comparison made between AR3a imp. and RCF BR45 with reports and graphs testifying to the almost overlapping of the sound performance of two speakers that are almost contemporary but more distant than an ocean. Probably in the setting of the BR45 the Italian technicians of the time will have taken Acoustic Research as a reference !! You had a good ear and a good intuition.
  10. Bravo Kent, excellent choice of AR4x cabinets to house Avid components, we have already seen some woofers and tw. AR4x in other, not original, but similar cabinets, the opposite, I think it's your very good project, the Avid will fit perfectly into well sounding cabinets. In this case the internal sound-absorbing material maintains the weight and AR characteristics? Of course the double pairs of labels are in my wishes, and I will use them without adhesive, but with welded screws. P.S. I also have two pairs of AR4x and one of AR4xa, the latter is in use, the other two pairs are sleeping in the closet.
  11. Hi Kent, did you buy the empty AR4x cabinets for an original or Franken project? Hope the cabinets have the screws! Otherwise you find yourself with the same problem as me ... it seems that the rarest details are the screws. This seller also proposed (no longer appearing in auction) the cabinets of the Model Fifteen, a good basis for restoring a pair of these speakers. P.S. from the photos of the purchased couple, the KLH badges on the grilles are missing, clearly if you still have replicas I will have to buy a pair, together (if you also sell them) with a pair of "customized" JKH that will go on the grids of the AR7 replicas: if this project will have the right realization, I owe it to your courtesy.
  12. They are wonderful and not violated, the value can be high and profitable, the important thing is that at the right selling price these splendid AR3s go to a new home, appreciated and above all used daily to fill with correct and pleasant sound by a new and loving owner. ... I would have kept them with only the restoration of the full efficiency of new capacitors and Pot's restored or replaced with the excellent Pots that JKent offers at a very honest price to us fans ... think about it a little longer and decide to keep your splendid ones AR3 (difficult to find another pair with more unfinished cabinets in excellent condition than the ones you own). The value in $, currently offered as already written above of $ 1500 and more, is preserved over time, indeed it can only go up, but at least you enjoy a pair of speakers that since they were introduced in the 50s, are one of the world references for sound quality!
  13. Roy thanks for the Model Twenty sound analysis and AR comparisons, you also said "a bit warmer sounding" which seems like a great comment to me. I have a bottle of your cloth surround treatment and if needed it will be used to make the cloth suspension work properly: The ensemble woofer cabinet without the correct seal penalizes the low range a lot!
  14. Kent, after my adventure ended with the purchase of only one KLH Model Twenty speaker, (the seller is not at fault, he said that some time before a buyer wanted a single of two, the second, mine is next and the rest, no matter, I will update you after the couple's arrival in Italy and an initial small restoration), I was disappointed I bought a further pair of Model Twenty speakers, these from the link below ... https://www.ebay.it/itm/313866354158 so we get to three, we hope to get a good pair with possibly a channel central (I have an 80w Electron Marrè monaural amplifier plus another Electron Marrè stereo amplifier, all have an output transformer!)), all connected to a McIntosh C28 preamplifier with center channel output. This time it is certain that I got a pair of Model Twenty ... I hope.
  15. This is a little expensive, but you should take it into consideration. https://www.ebay.it/itm/393920488824?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=724-53478-19255-0&campid=5338381872&toolid=10001&customid=fe122eb2-8dba-11ec-8f7b-613563343132 Or this https://www.ebay.it/itm/194801833420?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=724-53478-19255-0&campid=5338381872&toolid=10001&customid=614bd69a-8dbb-11ec-9f86-613563343132
  16. Today I should buy an additional pair of KLH Model Twenty, I will notify you in a few hours about the outcome! I hope to buy them at a correct price, three KLH Model Twenty speakers will cost me about 600 $, over 2/3 of this amount corresponds to shipping and taxes ... my fault, next time I will be more careful about what I buy .. .
  17. Thanks Kent, unfortunately I got a Model Twenty in its cardboard box yesterday! The auction was for only one, but the translation of the Ebay Italia screen wrote pair !! So now I only have one speaker ... an unfortunate mistake! Given the advice and participation, I think I will buy an additional pair, with considerable additional monetary outlay, it is now a challenge, and so I will be able to have a stereo pair and the single can become a "central" speaker, connected to the McIntosh C28 preamplifier it owns. one output for central channel, dedicating an Electron Marrè monophonic amplifier with 80w of power !! I'm not giving up on my pair of KLH speakers! Giorgio
  18. Good morning Reza, I too had many problems (and additional expenses) to make my AR2a efficient, when purchased there was a rattle from the woofer (unglued the upper masonite, the one that goes under the fabric surround), glued the masonite with disappearance of the problem, a dual midrange had both coils interrupted (purchased 2 pairs of dual mid's) and clearly the Pots full of oxide and not working ... now the mid's are finally arriving with the brown cone card to complete the correct aesthetics of my AR2a ... since I got them 10 years have passed, but my AR2a have been playing for a long time, and their sound (they are not AR3a) accompanies me practically every day, they are the speakers I listen to more and I'm satisfied with it. The weather doesn't matter, but your AR2a deserve to get back in shape and will give you tremendous satisfaction when they are back in shape. I also own a couple of later AR2ax, but to my ears the AR2a sound much better, they are almost a "magic" ... try to test all the components of your AR2a, once in place they will give you a lot of satisfaction and great sound for years . Giorgio
  19. The beauty of this tweeter is evident in the photo, I hope you find a replacement as it happened to me ... I will help you in the research of this tweeter.
  20. How are your AR2a? Mine are the adored together with the AR3a!
  21. Nice specimens, regarding the torn foam (the foam suspensions look recent) it can be glued as it was before the tear; better than changing both suspensions (the characteristics of two different foams would not be identical) as for car tires.
  22. Thanks to Kent for the great gesture of giving me the 16 screws I needed !! It was such a huge courtesy that I greatly appreciate and wish to share with all those who follow the "life" of CSP this sincere thanks to Mr. Kent. I have everything I need to build the AR7 replica, perhaps a couple of JKH custom labels on the grilles would look good in a replica (albeit with all the original components) to distinguish them from the originals. A hug Giorgio.
  23. Thanks Kent, I have now seen these RCA plugs, excellent idea not to intervene on the aluminum plate of the Model Twenty by not drilling the same!
  24. From what they read up to now, even the KLHs will need the replacement of the capacitors which should be out of tolerance by a lot! When replacing the capacitors I think I will pierce the aluminum plate on the side of the RCA input and add the classic 2 AR screws for fixing the cables to the sides of the original socket, clearly moving the label with the serial number!
