  1. Let me start by saying I apologize for the poor grammar and difficult to read message I don't have use of money right hand my main hand as a result of combat and Afghanistan and I write so I have to use voice to text app which makes Einstein sounds stupid I apologize I try to edit best I can but after 15 years I'm having to do this it's become tedious you have my apologies. When I get when I got into high five it was almost immediate that I started refurbishing speakers and learning about 2 amps just never got done so I've always stuck with solid state it's almost overwhelming the amount of variance Main tube has and I still don't understand the word rolling anyhow but I do know is that I bought the $300 upgrade from Tube Depot for the the Pure T ube amp for Monoprice into the power tubes failed and one of the preamp tubes failed I don't know that I'm doing anything wrong I'm using resistor across the secret terminals when I'm using it as a preamp I think I just have shitty parts. Both the mpnoprice pure tube amp, as well as the Schiit Valhalla actually make terrific 55 preamps for a massive 800wpc Crown Poweramp, really gives it some character. Everything's so confusing from what is the numerals in the letters stand for after the power supply. I'm glad you gave me some individual sellers on eBay you know Rick Cobbs known for surrounds and that's the only guy I go to and never done me wrong and that's the kind of thing. You know 5 6 7 8 years ago you could,if you were clear audio fuel or they said you know I would much prefer to sell to somebody who's going to appreciate it and someone who's not even if I made less money and most people were like that back when I was growing up but. Sorry I just realized I'm probably rambling I would appreciate your your insights and your advice and it's really nice to meet with you take care.
  2. Just saw you are sold out, any advice on which tubes to shoot for, maybe a trustworthy suggestion where to buy? Thanks.
  3. Hello, Irazu to do the tubes and and tube rolling. I has e a schiit Valhalla, the cirrebtbones failed. Schiit Valhalla 2 as Preamp Tube Rolling 6DJ8 6CG7 7119 Tube Adaptor. would you have any of these or any equivalents? more importantly I have a Monoprice pure tube amp with the following tubes all of which have held as well The originals are 4 el84 and 4 6n3 Experience but pretty new to tubes and I appreciate any help you give me trying to find these tubes are equivalents any advice you have a meal welcome to listen thank you very much Scottie Munoz
  4. Moderator I don't know that this belongs in the the wanted section or not. Please don't hold it against me if you need to move it I understand but if you can keep it here where maybe it'll be seen more, i'd appreciate it...but again I'tsbe your call..many apologies. I'm back after a very long bout with the sickness. Truth is I've been very sick for some time (18 months) Up till 8months ago, I sold 3-5 500-700+ sets a month, 80% through 4 consignment shops here in Detroit that all went out of business for some time since covid so back to the auction site I go. God I hate that place but I was good at it when I was there 5 years ago. I already started most of these but I decided I'm going to drop my 10pi, ar 11 12 14 15 + 18 (I got a pair of 16 xo, but no dice)..all at once something I did similarly 13 years ago and I got some pretty decent attention out of it which I needed considering it was pretty good refurb work. 1)***One question that keeps nagging at me my 10π's..my set of 11s set of 12, and 14's all are brass badge first-run Edition. Did I smoke too much that night??? Because I remember I read somewhere I thought that the Early Edition with a brass badge just had a brown foam. I can't find any evidence of it. I believe that I can't sleep with pretty much certain to eat all the images that I've seen none of these four speakers in the early Incarnation with the brassbadges had any sort of other Insignia on the baffles, no pictures I've seen show that what does it mean a lot what is the public consensus as I'm fairly strictly an originalist who doesn't want to refurbish something that didn't exist. 2.xxxxDid the brass badges versions have Brown foam? is that correct? I jump you lots of Hoops and circles to be as original as humanly possible if I screw that part up I never forgive myself nor will my pocketbook because the truth is I'm dropping all these speakers at once that I've been working on and off for the last 2 years that I've been sick because I have no choice I bring a half my family's income and I haven't brought anything in for 5 months a lot of work I got 40 some speakers in my shop ready to go that's got to do the work only less couple weeks ago I felt like a reasonable human being. If you're interested in going in on me to order some real foam reproduction grills for the speakers, im plscing a large order. I was told You can do brown or black doesn't cost any more that is unless I'm crazy and I never read that Brown foam was a thing which I'm beginning to think. I'm going to give it more or less the week before I finalize the order. I'm sorry please let me know if anyone is interested again I'm not trying to be a middleman or have you worried about me handling your money or getting them to you correctly sounds like I can talk this fella into handling that side of it where you can pay him directly whatever the rate depending on how many we buy...he did tell me that he'd much preferred to do up to the 20 or 30 so I got to imagine we'd get them less than Larry sells those fabric ones for. **** can anyone confirm or deny did the only the Early Edition with the brass badges have the peerless tweeters or did they switch to making ain house tweeters also known as copies haha before they went to the second edition,? **** essentially most all of the sets I've mentioned are more or less complete however with the ar-12...as I normally do piecemeal all drivers together in crossovers I have everything but the cabs. I am not going to spend for $500 on cabs alone however since the 11 12 and 14 identical and I was a woodworker before I got into speakers, a very awesome either make my own clone cabinets or in this case I would just make a new baffle clones to look like they are 12 baffles .... hopefully I can find another 14 11 or 12 single cab, or if anyone has a set of any of the above cabs, I would greatly donate a lot and trade Scottie Muñoz
  5. Shit pete, I was hospitalized a couple 4 days....( long covid). Almostvwehtvin a ventilator, I can clearly remember it being on mind just before, but...im sorry man, it slipped my mind. I'm truly sorry pete.
  6. What makes a guy like you and I and the rest of csp, as you describe? Compared to...for example- most of my customers. A good amount are speakerheads might have a job over their heads they they hire me to do, but increasingly, especially in the last 2-3 years, it's theAverage Joe's or Jane. The reason I'm able to sell them and make the kind of money I make is because I'm selling them something they're accustomed to going to a store ( increasingly Amazon, gotta get out of the habit of saying "store", strange) for new. 7. Very good points both ways. I am only speak from my experience with gear and "young'ns". I'm not unrealistic, I often have to go through an entire an comparison of what he's listening to through BT ( admittedly it's getting better, but wired is easily more listenable.) I've done it, just to be a pain in the... But also to reaffirm with him what his ears are hearing, with nothing to compare, human nature and for lack if better word, laziness wins out. I do feel a wane in the vintage market I'm so closely tied to. I'm optimistic that new tech, ( atmos audio, the new klh 5, lossless streaming), came at the very right time for all those *bro's" to have an easy answer for "what do I do with those wooden speakers I bought for a grand?" 9. I use Tidal for Atmos Audio. Mostly because unlike their support, notbinvebtion, of the controversial mqa file format... everything that I've read says that it appears to be a better experience, over Deezer and Apple. The comment regarding the issues with Apple and some quality and the use of force to use of their Hardware and also the necessity of an outboard DAC.... I guess I could only say cuz I don't have any experience with the Apple that almost always a outboard dac is "usually." A good thing mind you when were the other however you want to sign it then apples also an outboard DAC is almost always Improvement. almost always.... in my experience. In fact the weakest part I believe in my most recent set up chain I believe is the use of even a higher-end Onkyo AVR are as a "preamp" and DAC mostly because I've spent most of my energy concentrated on the speaker side. However I don't even know how a DAC works in acmulti-channel immersive sound format. I suppose if I went the real pre-pro route, say with an Emotive preamp that could support multichannel and Atmos would likely have a much better DAC, or support for a better multichannel DAC. I'm by no means knowledgeable on any aspects and all of this information. I'm looking for just as much as everyone else I imagine. Does anybody know of a outboard standalone multi-channel DAC that supports Atmos, DTS? -Scottie PS.....With with the use of a most recent generation Fire Cube as wifi streamer and a extremely fast Wi-Fi connection, I found no differences between the few physical Atmos sources I have and streaming with Tidal. Those may or may not be issues with the author of the post that's having those issues with Apple, of which I don't have any experience with or the forced usage of Apple's Hardware. None of those concerns, however, I take lightly, seeing as I think it's essential to Atmos's survival and flourishing as the future of music replication is highly....crucially dependent on the fact that it's not seen as a cash grab so endemic of the previous or at least the end of the previous mid to high-end loudspeaker industry by marketers and that it's as user-friendly as humanly possible which doesn't seem to be. there's not even a consensus on the proper Atmos audio set up as of yet.
  10. For many years, or maybe it was the insomnia from young babies and C-ptsd, but I was convinced the world was going to hell with each of us clutching a "stereo" soundbar or mono BT speaker. I have awakened to find...maybe I was wrong. Studios are embracing Atmos AUDIO unlike other bygone "new thing" formats, the biggest selling artist of the decade has re-recorded her entire discography in atmos, ( Taylor Swift, not specifically due to Atmos, but never the less). My personal set up as it consists today is a 7.2.6, all 303 series/same era Nht. 302t x 2 fronts Lst/303/allison prototype center. (See bottom) 338 x2 rear Surr. 338 x2 side surround 218v x 6 ceiling height speakers Nht 1259 woofer x1 ceiling mounted Infinite baffle, ( thus making ceiling channels "full range") ( attic) Nht 1259 x1 woofer floor mounted (under my seat!) Infinite baffle (basement). Onkyo tx rz 840 avr as atmos pre-amp Parasound 5 channel power amp plus 3 crown xli 1500 stereo power amps ***Lst/303 atmos fever dream prototype... 3 sided baffle angles back 3/4 of the way up 45 deg, where the 4 tweeters would be in lst, with 3 dual LS mid/tweet drivers angled 45 towards ceiling, mounted vertically, taking advantage of the Ls dual driver's superior vertical dispersion, only on it's side so to speak, making for the same superior horizontal dispersion) borrowing Sony dolby enabled filter components, "borrowed" to provide additional immersive/height output, ( the front height channel is doubled in this case) (separate inputs in rear for the "height" segment, which includes a 10" woofer from a 302 mounted on top facing ceiling based on Allison 1-4 and his room boundary observations and the Allison 4 I own.). (Xo based on lst xo, component values adjusted for driver impedance. Same xo points as lst.) The forward facing panel, below the angled dual driver, are a 303 mid and 303 tweet with a 12" 303 woofer in middle. Side panels each have a 303 mid and tweeter each. A client is borrowing the unit or pictures would be provided, as I believe he's deciding, per my suggestion, to commission me to follow-through and build 7 of my prototypes....its my belief that 5-7 of these in a room, (I forgot the best part, the 10π's woofer environmental controls ala transformer, are incorporated into forward facing 12", allowing for placement anywhere in room. It is my belief based on the many atmos audio install mistakes, and lessons learned...that 5-7 of these, floor mounted (ceiling mounted is not joe six pack's forte and I'm looking to make this as user friendly and remove as much marketing gimmicky-ness as possible, reducing needed speakers to only 5-7 of my "lst/allison/dolby enabled hybrid prototype" once the dolby enabled aspect is tweaked such that actual ceiling mounted speakers are no different sounding than the dolby enabled ls dual drivers/ceiling facing 10". They should sound as if they were mounted on ceiling. Imo they do. Need to learn more about this tech though. The two sections, height and forward, can be pushed by a single channel with terminal connector plates connecting "height channel" and "floor" channel can be isolated to respective channels. Making it very flexible application wise. All mids/tweeters in individual enclosures. The entire speaker is like pushing a 9ls (12" and 10") 6 tweeters and 6mids total! The volume of speaker is 5.25 cu.ft. AS of course. Utilizing deflective/reflective waves ala lst, model 28, (hope Dr. Bose's children don't sue me!! Ha). I have applied for a patent, ( I freely cop to the inspirations this idea came from above, however, because it incorporates so many different "ideas" and most importantly it takes those prior patents and applies them to a new tech, which the patent attorney I hired, says is the key part of patent law that might make my prototype a great candidate for a patent. Anyhow he's convinced Ill get the patent, but then he's supposed to tell me that, we'll see... still waiting word. The idea of soundstage is not pertinent in an "immersive sound" format. Allison, the "lst king" is quoted as saying "live music is not heard from a single location where two sound sources intersect. It's those waves bouncing all around us." My conjecture is that Allison would be very excited should he have lived long enough to hear atmos audio. -Scottie
  11. I agree fully with your "but.". I'll add sacd to that list. I do feel, as much as hard as it is to ween my way off physical media and " embrace" the wild west of streaming...thsys it's not as bad as I thought 3 years ago. Maybe not saying much....but!?!? Scottie * if it was "music from big pink", is be all over $65!
  12. Quite the opposite, I have found in my experience. Firstly, as a child of the 90's, I was a heavy grunge rock n roll fan. I was 12 when Kurt Cobain commuter suicide for perspective. I grew up with nothing but rock n roll, as a release from an incredibly repressed- hyoervreligous upbringing. Quitevlitrallybibcam remember being thankful for finding a 45 wpc RCA receiver and speakers in the trash, for no other reason than it drowned my screaming parents, far better than my previous 8wpc Sony rack system! So I started working 40 hours a week from the age of 12. You got me out of that hell of a house for 8 or 10 hours a day and it gave me just enough money to get not a very good system. However I could get a really great system if I figured out how to fix it which brings us today... But before I get to "TODAY", quickly, I don't know how it happened but I was gifted a set of ar9s from an uncle that died and barely knew at the age of 14, once I broke them, fixed, then broke again...and got a amplifier that could push them...the 45wpc wpc rca wasn't up to the task I'm afraid... I can't put into words what that set of ar9's did the rock music I was passionate about...to the hip-hop I was just really getting started with- generally because this was about the time it was becoming a much more serious art form rather than party music, not to say anything wrong with party music. I'll tell you there's not a better speaker- hands down for listening to hip-hop with then to ar9. As much as it may pain some of the long timers here, I completely understand the Generational Gap, however coupled with the fact that I have 17, 12 and 8 year old sons. Also, pre pandemic Id still go to 6-7 shows a year. I don't mean this in sense of braggadocio, but I do have a reasonable sense of what's in the heads of "the kids" then maybe someone just 10 years older... based on the peculiarity of how I came up in hifi and music. I have full face of faith and measure that what's just around the rising is going to change "hifi" in the best way, forever. It is going to revolutionize and recreate an actual speaker industry "Dolby Atmos AUDIO". Not to be mistaken with Dolby Atmos " HT"..... is the new "stereo versus mono" and it's going to win, assuming that the public can get beyond the obvious quote on quote "marketer's dream" ("not 2, but 2*** speakers!!!")...also known as a cash grab that it may appear to be. I've done 25 + strictly Atmos AUDIO Centric setups and I've learned a lot. All I can say at the moment...it's the real deal, and an ideal Atmos AUDIO setup is nothing like a HT set up. In fact the best setups I've designed have zero dedicated subwoofers. 5-7 FULL range speakers on the floor, 35hz or lower at least for 75% of them, 2-6 more on the ceiling... and now your kicking. ( "wish you were here" just got released remastered in atmos audio...Jesus!!) We're at the intersection of the Public's loss of interest in mono bluetooth speakers and Sound Bars, the re-ignition in the interest of speakers from the Golden Era...(I broke six figures in profit for the first time in ten years the first year of the pandemic. Sold more Classic and ADD sets, Large advents and Klh to under 30 buyers than I ever imagined I would in my life...(and for the record, @royc, is a well known name among the under-30, internet obsessed crowd.!). "You've spoken to Roy, ( they always say the full "Roy") ha ha, sort toy, it's true, all the time ) and now the advent (no pun) of Atmos Audio. It's great time to be a fan of hi-fi as much as it might not appear to be on the surface. I've done more than a few Dolby Atmos audio set-ups using nothing more than restored vintage Ar's, Advents and KLH's, although I will say my personal Atmos Audio set up in my home is, with respect, the best I ever heard (2 nht 1259's in the ceiling, infinite baffle? Yes.) utilizes every one of the 12- 303 Series speakers...and it is glorious to see a 4x mounted on the ceiling, I've got pics! more than a few. (Redacted) ....Grunge Rock music in the early nineties led me straight back to chuck berry, Elvis and the Beatles strainht to the Beatles..The Beach Boys... Stones... Dylan. And no particular way do I think of myself as special however I believe I have unique perspective on popular music listen 2 through the loudspeaker technology of the day and that even applies to 1984-ish, I think is when the LS series stopped being produced...the little hiccup in the mid-90s with the limited and classic series, and the venerable 303 series by the returned prodigal son Ken Kantor, set to regain AR's place in the world. And to me, critics of the time, and most (some?) of us, he succeeded admirably of the mission statement of the 303, Johnny Q Public apparently didn't get the memo. Apparently too busy listening to ported Klipsch's with those God awful horn tweets and fart noises where bass is supposed to reside. I'd just as soon think of 84ish till today as a black hole in speaker quality/tech "generally". ( Dont meet too many TSW fanatics.). Now, actually, I'm excited again. "Dolby Atmos AUDIO" It's been recorded in that format, or remastered. No 2 channel up converted to surround sound BS with the early AV receivers... this is listened to just like it was recorded. Same as we claim in two channel world, " listen to it as it's recorded, right? Probably gonna change the world. Dead serious and I feel like I've got a good restricted it's going to make stereo versus mono look silly and give us a new speaker industry. That has been long run gone. I've got pretty good upper entry level to expert knowledge base in every major and minor trend for much of the 75-year run of rock and roll and pop music, including Hip Hop, which like it or not, is the rock n roll of the 60's or 70's. It's also incredibly more artistically inclined and intelligent than what passes for hip hop on white pop stations/streaming spots. I challenge any here with a 12" ar three or 4 way to listen to "good kid maad city" by a 21 yr old Kendrick Lamar on vinyl. Evocations of early Dylan. (I own and have memorized every Dylan album, even the shit ones. "Subterranean Homesick Blues" is THE first hip hop song, listen again!) what the kids listen to today sounds just as good on my current setup, to my sons, not me necessarily. although I agree... My 2 channel set up is never the same however it always includes a 3a or descendant generally, and they stream through the wifi from their phones to my 2 channel setup...pop music of today, a lot of hip hop, classic rock all the time, and they don't even question why we don't have a subwoofer...when they go to their friend's house to there Dad's HT systems with 5 SVC 15" subs, subs alone costing more than my car, ya know!?!! Amazing, (and annoying, yes?) To be cont.....
  13. The 32 is my favorite 8" Kloss eta Klh. Well, thec32, with the tweets from a model 24. (Thesmaller orange phenekic with no cage.) I've got three sets currently fully restored, one with the insulation and the chicken wire, another with the b) mofel 24 plastic cup and Tweeter and then a third with the chicken wire and insulation removed revealing a great Tweeter with an Alico magnet. I've see it in a few other speaker models, and I'll never understand the need to dampen externally. took out the chicken wire and hardwired - 4 DB 2 resistor l-pad. I probably should have put a variable one in but I got lucky and it sounds almost exactly the same amount of Tweeter as if it had the chicken wire the chicken wire it looks better if I remembered I just look at your pictures but I don't believe you have the chicken wire on yours either. If it's too bright sounding like I said - 4db two resistor l-pad hardwired did the deal for me. anyways I just saw a 32 in the original boxes as well on eBay just recently. Almost had it but but too much on my plate at the moment. anyhow greet seeing another model 32 fan by the way. You know Acoustic Research put out about 14,000 8 in two ways and the first two eras Kelly's I think the total of 456 I don't never get mentioned in the same conversations with the 4x or 7 or maybe even the dynamo. m though of a shame, I think the 32.... I guess it's better than four 0r 7 or a dynaco but it's up there!n In no way am I bragging l, but I own every single Kloss era klh including 28, 7, 4, 38 except for models 1 2 and 3 which I have never heard and probably never will maybe I'll get lucky one day but yeah I'm quite a significant Henry Kloss fan to say the least, take care!
  14. In glad to hear that, truly. Hadn't heard much about their reception. They look...average. But who cares if they sound good. Scottie
  15. I've got a set in great shape ( spider not saggy, good sound, need refoam. Message me if interested.
  16. If it's a 58s tweet I have 2 sets available. Both pulled from 58s cabs myself. Not an ar-90, others, tweeter. Not looking to get rich. Def. Will accept less because it's a csp member. If it turns out to be needed, send me a fair offer price and Ill ship them right out. Prefer to sell a set as they are both matching sets, but would sell a single in this case. I've never seen a 58ls...a massive fan of all the American ls sets, I assumed it would have the dual mid tweet driver. But that's what the 78ls is already, makes no sense. In that case I've refurbished the dual driver more than a handful of times and could replace the tweet in it if needed. I'm interested in pics of 58ls as well. Not many sets of ARs I've never even seen a picture of.
  17. Pete, I brought this very topic up a year + ago. I have the woofer your looking for. A round out of a 5012w. I'd be happy to ship it to you no problem. Scott.munoz.2007@gmail.com send me your address. Ship tommortoe...id like to know. I agree, the square metal nla woofer sounds as described above. Scottie
  18. Just have to find any 10pi, 11, 12, 14 cabinet, all the same size and design....a set of 8 ohm tweets, and refoam these "magic mids". And you have one of the rarest, best tekedyne era models made. I have $400 in, ( refoamed proper woofers, btw.). Mids function perfectly, btw. 3 day return for no reason. Fair offers considered. I can ship anything anywhere for cost. Trade....nice! I will recap xo for cost + if needed. Also build ar-12 baffles to use in a 11 or 14 cab. if need. Original foam. 6/10. I'll reform mids if need be....extra. Scottie
  19. I would add, and I Dont know of many, but an acoustic suspension sub, which aren't small, I believe will fit the "system" best. The nht 1259 woofer, if you can find one, was used in the second greatest loudspeaker, (as defined as looking like a 6 year old drew a monster truck with crayons!!). It was used in the ar-9 little sister, the NHT 3.3. The 10" used in the nut 2.9 will only need a big cab, the 1259 needs 3.7cu ft. To spec. Dayton has a 15" I just read that's not 20 years old that's a solid AS driver. Why not send vintage-ar a single 12" AR woofer to rebuild, put it in a 1.5cu.ft box....stuff, and carry on smartly? If you find a AR sw30 ( 303 woofer, I'll pay you $500, no joke, and i'll make you a cabinet with one of my true NOS 1259 woofers. (Serious as can be.)
  20. Still looking? Got a set, sounds clear as free flowing ferrofluid allows.
  21. I'm glad to hear... And was aware. This guy ran klipsch for 10 year's however. Known as a shittalker. We'll see.
  22. Fake paperwork, not ar-1 woof. But is 755a drivers real? Thanks Scottie
