  1. Thank you AR55. Yeah, that's pricy. I found a metal fabricator in my town but have not contacted them yet. Larry's stands look nice.
  2. Larry, Which AR speakers are those ? My 10 Pi measure 14" wide, 10 13/16" deep
  3. Thank you. Did they fill the tubing with sand or steel shot ?
  4. Here is a drawing for the AR90. Not sure if the AR9 has the (4) rolled up stuffing. My 1st pair of 9s appears to be just pieces shoved in and not the rolls. I have not ventured inside my 2nd pair of 9s too deeply. AR90-Drawing1of2.TIF
  5. Yes, above the xover boards is stuffing. IIRC, it is 4 rolled up poly wadding. I have an AR drawing showing it. I will look for it after dinner and post it.
  6. The woofers and crossover area of the AR9 and AR90 is left empty on purpose (i.e. no poly-fill material). There is a thread on this site about it. The Tim Holl white paper on engineering the AR9 might also shed some light as to why. I believe it is an isobaric chamber.
  7. When in doubt always turn left. Just be positive. Good Luck in your search.
  8. Maybe Eyes are open for AR5, AR3, AR3a and LST BUT only if I can get it for a decent price. Prices are crazy right now. Hoping to stumble on a pair at a yard sale with a seller who has 'no clue'. Same with a '58 to '60 Gibson Les Paul. 😉
  9. Thanks Gene. I was thinking along those lines.
  10. Hi Frank. LSTs make me drool.
  11. I was thinking along those lines, too. But, there could have been several models in development at the time of sale. Are they AR or TAR?
  12. (1) What speaker is considered the last of the original Acoustic Research brand vs Teledyne Acoustic Research? (2) AR3 or AR3a? Probably a personal preference but opinions wanted on the two speakers.
  13. Th thread Stimpy posted is the one I was thinking of.
  14. It eliminates the 2500uF cap in the woofer circuit that keeps the impedance from dipping below 3.2 ohms. It does not affect the LMR/UMR and tweeter impedance.
  15. I believe they need to be bi-amped to accomplish this as the LMR/UMR and tweeter would still present a 4 ohm load. IIRC, Roy addressed this with a member (Valkyrie) and did not recommend it. If you do try it make sure your amp is stable in the 1 ohm range to handle the dip.
  16. Are talking about the wires or the connections on the drivers? AR wiring should be that the darker color (e.g. blue) is neg and the lighter color (e.g. yellow)is pos (the example is for the tweeter wiring but the logic follows thru for each driver). If you mean the drivers then there should be a sticker with the driver p/n applied near the spade connections with a red dot. The positive spade is closest to the red dot.
  17. Thanks Kent. I got a price for the new KLH5 base from The Music Room ($175 each plus SH). They aren't a real good fit and they don't have the back brace but might work. I have the dimensions for the S-1 and could probably find a local fabrication shop to make them. Its just missing the size of the square tubing and if they are filled with sand or steel shot.
  18. @scottie munozI just saw this now. I'm only familiar with 12AU7 and 12AX7 and all their variants. Here's a link to vacuum tubes. You can switch types by clicking on a tube type from the list(s) on the left. http://www.vacuumtubes.com/6dj8.html Tube Depot is OK to deal with but they don't always carry NOS (new old stock) tubes. I like Viva Tubes in western Massachusetts. Fine people. They also sell on eBay. eBay has some good sellers: bobvcs and desireme1979 (even thou she got really pissed at me for backing out of a pair of 6SN7 tubes because one of a pair did not designate what type of 6SN7 i.e. GT, GTA or GTB.
  19. Its not damp as I run a dehumidifier and it was cold this winter (and de-humidifier is not needed in winter). The cold now bothers my hands that are riddled with Viking disease.
  20. You don't find the Dayton's have a lot of michrophony and white noise? I do. They get under my skin after about 1/2 hr of listening.
  21. Well you need to replace with the same value (i.e. uF, the capacitance; BUT voltage can be higher). I recommend you use Non-polar electrolytic (NPE) caps like were installed but you can use film caps. You may not like the sound of film especially the cheaper brands. You can add a small value film cap to the NPE for a bit more detail. I don't know of anyone still making a 20uF NPE cap. You could go with a 18Uf and add a 1.5uF film. Film are MORE expensive. https://www.partsconnexion.com/JANTZEN-88641.html https://www.partsconnexion.com/MUNDORF-70369.html
  22. Don't overlook the Black Beauty NPE from suppliers like Parts Express. Several restores like these. I'll mix and match just so I can get the values I need. The large MDL I have the leads are thinner and shorter than that on the Bennic and BB. Thanks for the info on the surrounds. My memory is not what id used to be. They looked so familiar. I went to my workshop and had a set in a shipping box from Rick. At least I won't miss my memory much. IIRC the 10 inch will fit the AR90 woofers.
