  1. ..... assuming I had a 'switch board' in my 90s .....
  2. They appear to fit. I'm wondering if the inner lip meets the cone edge or if it sits beyond that. Once you get the make and m/n you may be able to find dimensions. Killer roll if they do fit !
  3. Frank, Ask the seller if he knows.
  4. I'll give you $250 for the 3a speakers. 😉
  5. Looks like a Bose product. Just sayin'
  6. If someone is looking for an Acoustic Research AR-1 with Western Electric Altec 755a there is one on U.S. AudioMart.
  7. My Machinery's Handbook was clear about high tin content being essential and not lead. Lead is good for plumbing/copper and a few other metals.
  8. The leads are probably aluminum and aluminum soldering works best with a high Tin content alloy, such as Indalloy 121 (96.5Sn 3.5Ag, 221°C eutectic) or any of the "SAC alloys" (Tin-Silver-Copper or SnAgCu) like Ind256 (96.5Sn 3.0Ag 0.5Cu, 220°C).
  9. If you get a new Jeep you can have the blue VUs
  10. Check Craig's List. Two have shown up in my area within the last year. Love your 'space heaters'. Much larger than my room heater (below).
  11. In the end it really only matters what it sounds like to you.
  12. The 8uF cap is a shunt capacitor for the mid-range driver. Frequencies go to ground. The series cap for the mid driver is the 24uF.
  13. The old glue can (depending on type) be made to release easier by dribbling a small amount of isopropanol (rubbing alcohol) on it and allowing it to 'soak' for a bit.
  14. Getting harder to find the AR cap values used. The 6 is now a 5.7; the 8 is now an 8.2; the 30 is 31 and/or 33; and the 80 is 82. I'll let you know if I get some and what I think. Of course it will be my opinion.
  15. I'd like to try some of the Alcap npe. I think I'll inquire about overseas shipping costs.
  16. Great idea. I did this with my 91s. Keep in mind the circuitry in the 91 midrange is different than the 90 and 9 UMR and is less 'finicky' .
  17. I first ran across this in PS Audio's Paul McGowan Question & Answer video on YT - "Why do capacitors sound different"
  18. I've been trying to get my son to take them in place of his TSW610 I got him many years ago. The 91 blows the 610 mids away.
  19. Impressive ! Thank you for your thoughts. I'll look around my area and see what's available. Here's my AR towers >
  20. Thank you for that info. I was under the impression that the development of the 3a was pre-Teledyne. Sales years per aphenos>AR-3A: 1967-1976 What about the 2ax ?
  21. Thanks for the reply. Pondering a pair of AR5s nearby but would like to hold out for the 3a. There is one set not too far away but the woofers are different. One alnico and one later model. I think my collection of ARs should include a true pair of ARs and not just Teledyne models.
  22. You dubbed me a capacitor expert. I give my opinion which you don't like. There are differences in capacitors and reasons for it. I worked in an industry that coated paper, plastic and other substrates, we even vacuum deposited aluminum on paper. As an engineer I know what makes a good product or an average one. The differences are because of material quality, equipment that process the materials used and wind the caps and even attachment techniques. If you like Dayton then use them. I don't and know the reasons why I hear white noise in them. YOU are a bully! I am now going to block you so I don't have to be attacked by you as YOU are always the aggressor. OH L@@K ! What's that he said? Oh, look: another false accusation from RoyC about what he says I said. It was not me who said PE was made by MDL. What else will I find. You have always been the aggressor and unsubstantiated IMO. You just can't stand an opinion that differs from yours. You should treat your friends better. Carl and I had a longtime offline chat going with a few other members. Seems he had many agreements with my opinions. Gee Roy, another false accusation from you. I've been thru every post I have made and nowhere did I ever say a more expensive cap must sound better. I have said that a cap made with quality materials and quality equipment will yield a better capacitor. I stand behind that statement with my many years of engineering in an industry that made products similar to those in capacitors.
