  1. Pardon me but how does one calculate real RMS power, for example I have a Sansui 8080 that appears to be rated at 80 Watts but has been measured at 85 or 90.
  2. Sorry, I'm not very good at navigating this site as has been shown more than once. My question about the date versus serial number reference chart was directed towards jk. Although I really appreciate the information you have supplied I had no idea about any of that. I thought all of their drivers were made in house.
  3. Hey there, I've been meaning to ask you about something. I believe I've seen a post you made some time ago that had some information regarding finding dates of manufacture and version of klh6 and possibly others? I think that it was based on serial numbers. Pardon me if I've asked you this before and don't remember your reply. As always,
  4. Thanks for all of your help, all of you. And yes, my knowledge and abilities are limited. There are, fortunately, two local people that are far more knowledgeable that I could ever hope to be. Yesterday I happened to come by a pair of University 315c series 200 triaxials in original cabinets for 60 bucks. Cabinets extremely rough, pulled a back and interior seems pristine. Probably not appropriate to discuss these here but would definitely welcome comments on them. Private messages welcomed. They're pristine and appear to be a classic, that's for sure. Admin, thanks for your tolerance.
  5. Oh and oh . Thanks and thanks. Next duty would be to research the reform thing .
  6. Aha, here is the post I was looking for...how can I tell how much power is enough? I hope there is something measurable and not subjective. Also, someone said something about needing a variac. I have always thought that it was only needed for tube gear. This st120 is the first solid state made by this outfit.
  7. Not sure what the ramifications this arrangement are, what the caveats are. Why is caution needed? What are the risks?
  8. I guess I will put the superior tweeter in a position at the same level at which I spend most of my eartime.
  9. Not sure what you mean. Are you suggesting that I run two systems, one on the top of the other, stacked, that I patch the two amps together and in effect make one amp? In any case, I have no idea how to go about wiring two amps except to biamp. I could figure out how to biamp, running one amp to the tweeters and another to the woofers, is that what you're suggesting?
  10. I have an st-120 with a pat 4, untested.
  11. I don't understand. There is a risk that you are warning me about I think. What is it?
  12. I have one stock pair that is refurbished and another one that is modded in a way that appears to be based on Roy's design... It has the recommended Hi Vi tweeter and a large copper coil on the back. Thinking about stacking them ala Advent. Tweeters together in the middle. Roy's on top or bottom? Anyone done this and have recommendations? Would love to hear from you, Roy... Glenn? And anyone, Mr. Kent.
  13. Hey, here's a new one, for me anyway... What about liquid electrical tape as one guy said? You too please Roy, if you see this. GD/Curly?
  14. Simple. Now to work on technique, finesse. Over the next 10 years, lol. Practice up on some broken old thing I have laying around here, like that waaay messed up ancient firewood cabs and (virtually, by me, anyway) irreparable pair of to 2ax with mismatched woofers, shot foam. Thanks!
  15. I have never used anything besides Roy's stuff. You guys taught me everything I know about everything, particularly in principle of a sealed box. I never heard of cloth surrounds until I started reading here 20 years ago. I have yet to replace my first cap and my first surround. Hey by the way, what kind of solder do I use? I might break out my 40 year old soldering iron and try something, a science fair project LOL... Talk to me about flux. I think I already know that you heat the parts and let the solder flow onto them.
  16. What are the pros and cons of Roy's stuff and PVA? I think Electro-Voice sends a little bottle of PVA for their surrounds.
  17. Pros and cons of each for surrounds, please?
  18. I had a novel idea from a guy, he said contact cement thinned with lacquer thinner and it stays flexible what about acetone?

  20. Opinions, please?

  22. Pardon me guys, but are you referencing the black front wired three quarter inch dome that is the second generation 2ax tweeter used in the AR 3a and the LST as well as in the AR 2ax? I may have a source for a couple of them as well as having worked with restorations on these by an excellent engineer that can rebuild them. He has a great reputation and a long track record of outstanding work.
  23. Then those are the things that I will do! Thanks, guys...good to be back in the world again, 'eh?
