  1. Hi Chi, it may be possible to repair or rebuild your broken tweeter, insert a nice photo of the tweeter to identify the type. For example under my 2 different tweeters 200011-1 in the flange sticker. By repair I mean the possible replacement of the dome complete with coil by another similar AR tweeter, for example in my case the tweeter 200054-0, at 4 ohm, will be the substitute for my non-working tweeter. the 200054-0 will replace this tweeter which has the coil interrupted. Then this AR78LS mid / high unit will revert to its efficient speaker again. The replacement on your AR10TT tweeter that I propose is this.
  2. Hi, send me mail, so I understand better the problem of your AR10TT tweeters! Giorgio.
  3. Hi, welcome back ... our projects are long term, but when you finish restoring your speakers, you have to let us know! Excuse my question, but your statement: "I'm listening to AR-3t's" means that you have a pair of AR-3st or AR-3t?
  4. This and his brother are the best substitutes today https://www.ebay.it/itm/254975804905?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=724-53478-19255-0&campid=5338381872&toolid=10001&customid=1678c4f0-eef3-11eb-8f11-616462313436 Perhaps the expense will be greater, but the AR4x were born and designed for these tweeters! You will have a splendid pair of AR4x with the original speakers and above all the tweeters.
  5. David, I forgot that I also had AB / Simplyspeakers tweeters in a pair of AR58s, I took them out (and then sold them) and got a pair of 200029 1s as a replacement. Although the AR58s originally had the 200043 tweeter, this is harder to find, I can tell you that in my opinion the original AR tweeters definitely have less output (AR draft) and probably less harsh than over-replacement manufacturing. I kept the tweeters 200029 1 in use on the AR58s and when listening I don't regret the "old" AB / Simply substitutes. Probably the best replacement and improvement in your AR10TTs could be the AR / TNG tweeter, you see it in the photo below, it is the one of my AR10TT replica, in my opinion better than all the previous AR production, same goes for the mid TNG as a substitute. TNG tweeter TNG mid
  6. Hi Chilo61, I own these 2. Currently placed in the closet.
  7. The woofer arrived a little while ago, "almost" well packed, all the canvas roll of the suspension had collapsed ... after loving care and a few hours, here is finally the missing twin woofer. On right new woofer My original woofer dated Oct 28 1969 New wooder, dated Mar 31 1969?
  8. I imagined that the new mid was photographed as a prototype, not yet in the final finish. Probably the suspension roll also needs to be finished.
  9. And under another pair of AR3a by an acquaintance of mine, probably year '71, assembled in the Dutch factory about 5xxx serial number (European numbering not USA). And under another pair of AR3a by an acquaintance of mine, later than my pair, probably year '71, assembled in the Dutch factory about 5xxx serial number (European non-US numbering), the next photo is the contemporary AR with US cabinet ( note the front baffle, in lamellar pine), slightly different for construction than the Europe one. The woofers, mid's and tweeter are identical in both cases. European, perfect pair... ...USA original style To finish the AR3a evolution, here is the latest European version, AR3a improved (these were my 7/74) with the correct original components.
  10. Here we have the values measured on the original capacitors removed ... Luckily, there are discrepancies of over 200% on the original declared value !! Measured value-------Project value---------------Value substitutes
  11. But they have the same aesthetics as the originals ... Should they have a treatment on the dome and surrounding suspension to standardize the original ?! Performed by enthusiast at a later time, after purchase? They are however appreciable, adequate replicas to the original.
  12. Documenting the original 1971 AR LST woofer here is how one of the 2 was, and then how it is now after receiving the correct new foam. Before: ...and after receiving new foam... At home! put back in the seat of its AR LST !! ...1971 AR LST
  13. Dear Giovanni, the 200003 woofers that I own as spare parts are from '78 year, not AR3a but AR10 / 11 MK2, identical and a few weeks more recent than those of my AR10TT MK ". I also own a pair of AR10TT replica, circa 1990 which all have speakers made by Tonegen and probably this pair sounds better in my opinion in the mid / high range than the older originals. Regarding the output of the woofer, as already stated, I prefer the AR ones. Anyway I have to redo the crossovers of both pairs and on that occasion I will weigh the sound absorbing material of the cabinets (the material looks like white polyester for both). Up AR10TT replica, under AR10TT MK2 200003 AR10TT MK2 woofer, two on left and 200003 spare on right Too bad the color difference between the 2 woofers on the left, caused by the different placement in the environment of the AR10TTs
  14. Hi David, thank you for your kind offer but my AR LST have their original woofers mounted. Waiting for the refoaming to cover the woofer hole I had put the 200003 woofers in surplus that I have! My thought and the meaning of the title of the Thread was to know if the newer woofers can be replaced by the originals by improving the performance of the AR LST.
  15. Looking at my photos today I found this below ... ... It is one of my AR LSTs, before receiving the original voofer after refoaming and provisionally with a 200003 woofer belonging to AR11. The woofer was there only to cover the hole in the seat, so it was not tested. My doubt is whether this 200003 woofer can integrate better than the original, both as a response to low frequencies, and to be able to increase the pot. max applicable to AR LST. Is there anyone who has experienced this combination? I have seen several pairs with replacement woofers from AR Tonegen, never with AR 200003 woofers! I believe the Tonegen woofers are capable of handling powers even higher than 200003, but they lose a few Hz in the bass, and they also lose the "heaviness" of the original AR woofer.
  16. Ar_pro has seen it right, I too am attaching photos of resistors used in AR in the early 80s (but aesthetically they correspond to the 70s) in AR48B and AR92 crossover. Those out of tolerance resistors are substitutes for the original.
  17. Hi Japie, I am attaching the links to help you in your search, these could for example be used as an 8 "mid / w, they don't cost much! https://www.ebay.it/itm/224532956290?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=724-53478-19255-0&campid=5338381872&toolid=10001&customid=3ba12a20-e65f-11eb-bd30-616462313436 Also this https://www.ebay.it/itm/234083506949?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=724-53478-19255-0&campid=5338381872&toolid=10001&customid=e18b9768-e65f-11eb-aeec-623361343730 ...this https://www.ebay.it/itm/164949415155?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=724-53478-19255-0&campid=5338381872&toolid=10001&customid=00b3e15e-e660-11eb-b84a-616462313436 ...And other you find on HifS... 10" woofer for example: https://reverb.com/item/23247227-single-teledyne-acoustic-research-ar-30b-restored-woofer https://www.ebay.it/itm/193478152619?mkevt=1&mkcid=1&mkrid=724-53478-19255-0&campid=5338381872&toolid=10001&customid=278026c0-e661-11eb-85fe-616462313436 ...You have to be patient and you will find the speakers you need to complete your AR35BX pair
  18. https://community.classicspeakerpages.net/profile/102584-speaker-dave/ Gorgeous, great project by a great person. This thread, re-read today is a great incentive to make some AR4x improved; over the years there have been all the updates of the project, illustrations, diagrams, comments by authoritative "Masters" in Acoustic Research as well as designers of this great manufacturer. The achievements following this great project are also beautiful. I decided, owning two very good pairs of AR4xs circa late 1969, early 1970, with all original components in very good condition and both excellent capacitors (one pair received a pair of new quality polyester capacitors), the other retains the original capacitors electrolytic, they also perfectly respect the original specifications. I decided to update one of the pairs with the project defined and perfectly illustrated in the PDF. I will not complete this project quickly, but I will update the progress of the work below. The photos illustrate the 2 pairs well, one is worthy of receiving the improved crossover designed by SPEAKER DAVE. 1969 PAIR 1970 PAIR The result would be a beautiful comparison between pair "A": AR4x and pair "B": AR4xi (improved crossover). I'll also have to decide which AR4x pair will receive the crossover changes.
  19. I update by showing the old wax capacitors and their weight in grams, the fixing brackets above the double capacitor... ... And the new capacitors, the weight of these and in the last two photos the values measured at the 150uF capacitors
  20. You made a great purchase! I think you will not struggle to find the 10" and 8" AR / Tonegen components to replace the incorrect components, (AR / Tonegen were supplied as spare parts after 1984 for the previous series of speakers all Made in USA) as you can see the possibilities for replacement are many The cost will not be high, certainly less expensive if for example to buy AR original speakers. Here on CSP you will find help, advice and even photos for restoring your beautiful AR35BX pair.
  21. Small update ... After many doubts: do I leave the pair like this, an Alnico woofer and other ceramic or do I exactly pair these early AR3a with the pair of Alnico woofers? I finally bought the original cufflink, dated 1969 in good condition. This woofer also restores the relationship with the crossover coil as it originally was. New woofer My AR3a woofer Other my AR3a woofer
  22. Hi, since the speakers are equipped with Isophon components (surely the tweeters are HM10, probably also the oval woofers are Isophon), they usually have an impedance of 4 or 5 ohm and have medium / high efficiency, they probably bear a power between 12w and 20w . These speakers will probably sound good and crisp in the mid / high range, but don't expect powerful bass.
  23. In Italy there are several examples of AR LST speakers, not as numerous as in the USA, but I think several dozen couples (let's not forget that 30 couples were adopted by the La Scala theater in Milan) Under mine dated as from the stamp on a 1971 tweeter with external terminals, for tweeter and mids. and contacts on masonite panels. Date printed on the tweeter back: Aug 7 - 1971
  24. Hi, yours are a wonderful pair of early AR2ax! In my opinion the woofers are okay (the only problem could be the only detachment of the masonite rings between suspension and basket and of the spider, which can be solved with new i8gluing), in my opinion they do not need Roy's drug. Regarding the tweeter, it is possible to fix it again by replacing the internal rock wool of the dome, for example with suitable felt, then re-glued the four drops of urethane in the same position. New capacitors, restoration of the 4 pots and you will get a splendid pair of early AR2ax !! Final cleaning of the cabinets and grilles restore the exterior as new.
  25. Simply beautiful, great job Lakecat! These are a splendid AR3a unfinished pine pair, better than an original AR pair.
