Uncommon 2nd gen 2ax's on the bay

These aren't mine, but I thought I'd highlight this sale since it seems like a good deal if you live nearby and want a rare pair of 2ax's. They are in laquered mahogany cabinets with all paperwork. Refoam the woofers, clean the pots, possibly drop in a pair of HiVi's and get new logo tags (they appear to have stripes on them) and have a good running pair in a rare finish. Local pickup is keeping them at a fair price.

There's probably a good chance that the dead mids and highs are just the old familiar pot troubles.

The stripes on the logo plates are just tarnish. They'll buff off.

If the pots are servicable, and the plates buff clean, that'll add $0 to this restoration and that's a bonus.

By the way, what have you found to be the best way to clean the logo plates: buff or chemical?

I will watch these and possibly grab them. 100 miles and $100 are both reasonable for this set, time is the item I seem to be short on.

Plus, Springfield Mass is kind of a shithole.

It looks like these were well taken care of and came into a record shop for sale or trade. There may be a little wiggle room on price if sold outside of ebay. If I lived within 50 miles of these they would be hard to resist. How often do you see a clean pair of 2ax's that aren't in oiled walnut?

Well, they are nice specimens and about 40 miles south of where I grew up -- long ago and far away at this point :)

Glad to see this sale getting some attention. I emailed the seller a few days ago with questions about the veneer species and woofer surrounds and condition of badges, and he subsequently added better close-up pics of the labels and badges. The rectanglar badges lead me to assume these are later version 2ax's with foam surrounds, but this has not been confirmed - - the seller has never removed the grilles. Those badges will clean up just fine.

Take it easy on Springfield, Geoff - - they are doing much important work there like building casinos and keeping our nation awash in firearms.
