Robert_S
Perhaps of interest, a pair of AR-3a in Rosewood finish have surfaced for auction. I've heard of, but never before seen, these "special-order" units. The original text is in German, and translates (via Google) as follows:"For connoisseurs: Acoustic Research Ar-3a special version for AR managers and developers in ROSEWOOD! You are bidding on a pair of Acoustic Research Ar-3a, a audiophlle legend from Acoustic Research Private Collection. I have these beautiful speakers of a former speaker of developer B & W from the Netherlands, which had at that time the European sales of Acoustic Research. He assured me that this special version has been made in rosewood exclusively for the senior management of AR and developers as a special order." Below, some images, taken from the auction, for archival reference:Robert_S
Carlspeak
Those have some very early serial numbers. I'm surprised at the asking price. Seems a bit low for rosewood 3a's of that early a vintage.

Tom H.
Are they that early if the have MDF back panel and not plywood? What year did they start making the switch? They still seem like a steal at the BIN price. Too bad they are overseas.
ar_pro
Beautiful. A real collector's piece. The seller does mention that one replacement woofer; but finding the older type on eBay shouldn't be much of a problem. For less than 800 bux, if these were within driving distance... genek
Sold for 600 Euros. Wonder what shipping to the US would have been.
JKent
Sold for 600 Euros. Wonder what shipping to the US would have been.Actually went for less. "Best offer accepted." Ebay no longer reveals what the actual price was in those best offer cases. Hope the new member is/becomes a CSP member.Kent
Tom H.
I've been watching that auction too. Someone got a great deal on a pair of rare AR-3a speakers.I bet shipping to the U.S. would have been $1,000+ for both speakers. I've priced up a few vintage electronics overseas shipments for potential ebay buyers and it seems like most of them run $350-$400 or more.
