New to this forum, and to warn you been kicked out of better places? OLD Submarine Sonar Tech, Electronic Tech. Retired, back into sound.

Kinda JBL guy, but many Vintage brands have come and gone. JBL are easy to turn with good margins?.  But as things go.

KLH17's $20 rich house next to BMW in garage. Passed husbands. After a little chat and smiles, I filled her in on her husband good choice, and she was so touch,

she gave them to me. Accepted with big smile and booked.

KLH 32's NIB Yes NEW IN BOX !! CL for $120, waited patiently for 7 days, BO for $40? NEW IN BOX.

Both will need "Old Age" issues addressed. That is how I got here to learn about cloth surrounds. So any thoughts, impressions, MODs?

Thanks All

Welcome Pigboat

Cloth surrounds should be re-doped ONLY with the butyl goo made by member RoyC and sold by Vintage-AR on ebay. A little goes a long way. Here is the Service Bulletin  http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/library/klh/other/klh_schematicsservice/klh_service_bulletin_60.pdf  btw, don't waste the goo on the dustcaps. You can use thinned white glue.

The Seventeens are very nice speakers but the Achilles heel is the capacitors. You'll need one 8uF and two 2uF film caps per speaker.

The Thirty-Twos are lesser speakers IMHO with 8" woofers, simpler crossovers and no HF level adjustment but to tell the truth I have not worked on these and many people like them. They have a single 4uF cap which should be replaced. There were apparently two versions--yours and ones that had fiberglass over the tweeter. Do a Google search and you'll find some threads on these on AK and CSP.

Kent's advice is spot-on. The Seventeen is a more serious product and among the favorite models of many KLH devotees. The Thirty-two is a wonderful small bookshelf speaker that I like a lot but does not garner much attention amidst the panoply of speaker models coming out of that factory. Attached is my experience with the Thirty-two.
