Recapping Large Advents

What IS the BSC circuit? Can someone post a link so I can read up on it? Thanks for the info about different caps. I did read that. Not surprised differences are subtle.

I've had the same PMS problem since my return here a few months ago.

My casual and but not current reading has shown me that others here were enjoying a noticeable LA sound improvement

with Pete's special circuitry inserted in their system.

My memory of the old day's, some reviews commented about a slightly negative sound issue, it was summarized as being around

the crossover region.

Could a more modern, as in, heavier guage wire coil replacement, also be a suitable cure?

Or is it more than just a cheap, as in least expensive but functional part, coil issue?

Hi all. I've been away for a while but I appreciate all of your replies. I've put the recapping on the back burner for now but I'm pretty sure I can do it if I can get enough light inside the cabinet. I've got a pair of 5012s that I have a problem with but I'll start another thread on those.

Hi Vern,

No it is not anything simple that could be fixed with

higher quality components.

The good thing about the Advents is that the crossover at

least provides a decent, smooth crossover between the

drivers. It is the overall balance that is not quite right.

Still, a complete redesign of the crossover would further

improve the XO transition and correct the overall balance.

I roughed out a completely new one years ago as a Saturday

afternoon project with my son - it sounds VERY good.

I just sent it back to you yesterday (7/19/2011).

With the unit in place and all else being equal, the Advents image and the highs are tamed.

Those are the 2 things the BSC unit did for me. And both are significant improvements.

On the down side it does take more power to get the same volume with the BSC in.

I still think that I need to improve on the acoustics of my room. That will be my next venture.

Thank you Pete for your generosity in sharing this unit which let me enjoy my Advents even more.
