I OWN A PAIR OF AR 142 SPIRIT.

I WOULD LIKE TO HAVE SOME INFORMATION ABOUT THEM (WATTS. IMPEDENCE. QUALITY ETC.) AND MAYBE TO FOUND A TECHNICAL SHEET.

GENERALLY THEY SEEMS VERY "DARK": NOTHING SIMILAR TO THE CLASSIC AR.

CAN ANYONE HELP ME?

THANKS

Check the AR timeline in the AR section.

I see they were made in 1989-1991, 8" woofer, 6" mid, 1" tweeter, 52Hz-25Khz response, 90db sensitivity, 23.5lbs, $799.90 retail new.

Later!

You're not gonna get much response, since these are not those blasted Ar freakin 9's or LST's :) (against which I will place my restored TSW910's anytime!!!! suckas!)

It's all good, guys!!!!! :) :) I just hate having the bastard child of AR with no freakin spare parts available, just venting. Actually, I've never heard the older AR's, and I'm sure they're good. I have one full year of restoration bit by bit on these 910's. Almost done, this weekend or next. Are the TSW series considered the "mass produced" era of AR, 'cause they sure are well built. AR_pro, you are correct on the drivers, not sure if you were asking or stating(or heaven forbid, criticizing :) ) .

Long live this forum!

I don't consider the TSW series to be substandard in any way. The tweeters could be considered bright, but that wasn't anything that could not be resolved. The woofers seemed to be the typical high quality AR, just with a poly cone. I remember the magnets on the 10's were very large. Plus, IMHO, the cabinets were beautiful.

Just be glad you were lucky enough to find those. It seems like the 910's are one of the rarer AR's. (Along with Holographics, MGC's, that Limited thing with Dynaudio drivers that someone really should expound upon, etc.)

I think I saw a couple models in my blue book I had never heard of too. Maybe I'll dig that out sometime ..

Whole lotta fabric(basically the whole front and sides are fabric), and a whole lotta foam(two 12"s, two 6.5"s and one 8" per speaker). Wood was in good shape, but needed some cleaning. Bought 'em from a guy who knew not what he had! Thanks to keithh(member) for his help on the refoaming of the 8s and 6.5s. We had to buy a lot size of dust caps(200+) for Pete's sake!

But they are how I want them to look so far. The 11s were too fragile to ship because the surround rides on top of the gasket. Woofers will be picked up this weekend, I took them to an AR specialist(AR9 woofers mostly, but same dif). I hope they look good, it's like having a family member in for surgery! I will probably have just over $1000 in them after it's all said and done, including my 2000 mile round trip to Boston to pick them up! I'm nuts, but these things are well worth it. And I couldn't touch great sound like this for less than a few 1000s(I estimate $4000+). Cripes, these things sold for over $2000 in 1987! Anyone know the light strength glue they use when they place the woofers in the cabinet? It was a just a light, stretchy glue, probably a seal more than anything. If they're gonna be in there for 10+ years, I wanna do it right. I'll send good digital pics when they're "ready to be seen".

Later!

Chris
