lARrybody
I am currently working on a pair of 1970 AR 6 speaker crossovers. In my exuberance in desoldering the Potentiometer I broke the nichrome resistance wire in two. I want to replace it with a new wire, but have no Idea what gauge of wire to get. It is very thin, but have no Idea if it is a 24,28,32,or something else. I have read that the wire measures just under 1 ohm. Could I replace it with a resistor instead? Any information or opinions would be greatly appreciated. Larry
JKent
Hey Larry. Yes, you can use a resistor. In the AR-3a it's 0.5 ohm. I used two i ohm resistors in parallel. Don't know what the AR-6 takes. Maybe look for a schematic or use an ohmmeter to measure the other one. (I hope you only broke one) Kent
JKent
Found a schematic. Not original. It says the NiCr is "just under 1 ohm." You probably saw that. I'm guessing a i Ohm resistor will be fine. I assume you have an early one with the Alnico driver. Later and euro versions apparently did not use the NiCr wire. -Kent
