  3. Here you go for the grills: https://www.etsy.com/listing/106891119/allison-speaker-8-woofer-grill-for?ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=allison&ref=sr_gallery-1-8&organic_search_click=1&col=1 As to the woofers, are they in that bad a shape or is it just the surrounds? Where are you located. There's someone in NJ who replaces surrounds as well as PA. If you're handy, you can replace them yourself.
  4. From the Allison Yahoo group: We have a tech outside Boston who has successfully restored tweeters whose only fault was their wiring. The cost if he is successful is $35 ea + return s/h. To get them to him, pack them v v v v carefully (cardboard cutout collars, lots bubblewrap etc) and pack and ship to Mark Chambers 141 River Rd Pepperell MA 01463-1625
  5. Bill, Going to have to disagree with you. There was a discussion in the Allison Group that Allison did in fact make speakers for auto sound. Check the link and look at the first picture. https://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-Original-Allison-Acoustics-2-WAY-CONVEX-DIAPHRAGM-TWEETER-ACD-2-NOS/173020890011 Brian
  6. There's a pair of F-1s on eBay as I write this that look in good shape. Seller is asking $299 I believe. (I am not the seller nor have any relationship to the seller)
  7. There is a speaker identified as a Rectilinear s38 on NY CL. At least that is what is on the card stapled to the back of the speakers. It looks authentic. Anybody know or have an opinion about these speakers?
  8. Try the Allison group on Yahoo. They do post schematics. Not sure if they have RDL.

    Avid Model 110

Picking up on this old thread because I've been researching the Avid 110, as I found a pair on CL. SR reviewed these speakers in 1980: https://www.americanradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Audio/Archive-Stereo-Review-IDX/IDX/80s/HiFI-Stereo-Review-1980-12-OCR-Page-0036.pdf#search="avid 110%22 https://www.americanradiohistory.com/hd2/IDX-Audio/Archive-Stereo-Review-IDX/IDX/80s/HiFI-Stereo-Review-1980-12-OCR-Page-0038.pdf#search="avid 110%22 The review is two pages. Each link is a separate page of the review. Brian

  15. In Search on Epicure 14 loudspeakers to do research on a pair I saw at an electronics repair shop, I found the following website: http://epicureloudspeakers.com/ My understanding in reading about Epicure is that Harman owns them. The website copy states that they are part of a large audio company but does not mention Harman. Although to me they appear similar to modern infinities in terms of the driver arrangement on the front baffle. I haven't seen any reviews on these Epicure models. Anyone have any information other than what's on the website? Brian

    Allison Today

I bought two pairs for my kids years ago. They sound rather good and do well with a subwoofer. My daughter uses them as her main speakers with a sub. I believe my son has his set up in his bedroom. Brian
  17. The tweeter for a one, two or three will not work well in a four. The four is a two-way speaker, the others are three ways. The tweeters will not go low enough for a two-way. Now, a four tweeter will work in a one, two or three. Brian
  18. For pricing check the eBay "sold" ARs
  19. Check here for all things EPI: http://www.humanspeakers.com/e/epimodels.htm Provides a history and details of various models over the years.
  20. I have the same subwoofer. I bought what was called the AV 6-pack off of eBay. It included 4 bookshelf speakers (AV200), a center speaker (AV202) and the subwoofer (AV W-4). The subwoofer only goes down to about 40Hz. I believe It's really a woofer module. The MS-W4 was part of the upscale version of the AV surround system called the MS it had the lacquer finish rather than gray vinyl but the units had the same audio specs. I think it has decent sound. I'd say it was a value system. Good for the price you paid. So basically, it's part of a budget surround system. The MS system did get a decent review in a magazine called Sound and Image back in 1994. The review gave it a 9 for cosmetics, a 10 for ease of use and a 7 for sound on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being best.
  21. Just so you know, before the Allison Company reorganized in the early 2000s, Allison was owned by the SAMMI Company of Korea. They bought the assets from Roy Allison's company in the early 1990s. You will notice the woofer in question is stamped "SAMMI," that subwoofer may have been from the 1990s and that woofer was, in fact, the original woofer for that speaker. Brian

    Intro

Saw this thread and couldn't help adding my two cents. I have Al 125s, Al 115s, Al 110s, Al 105s, (Missing 120s and 130s, actually have been circling on a couple of 120s), NL 1440s, and box set of AV home theater speakers (Kentucky version; no convex tweeter) that includes 4 AV 200 bookshelf, AV 202 Center Channel, MW4 subwoofer. I also bought Curt's RA Labs Mini-reference and I have the RA Labs subwoofer. Wife complains but I will not give them up except to family. Oh yeah, gave my son the RA labs Reference 4A. LOVE my Allison speakers.
  24. There happens to be NOS 2 three-way tweeters ($100 ea.) and midranges ($175 ea.) on eBay if you're interested. Brian
