ironlake
My woofers on my beautiful ar 4x,s have so much shinny goop smeared on the cloth surrounds I/m sure they are not good. I can get them refoamed. Should they sound the same with the foam as they did when new with just ar,s treated cloth surrounds? thanks for any answer. Late production AR-4x's were manufactured with foam surround woofers installed.Roy
Carlspeak
I put foam on a pair of 4x woofers that came in a pair I bought. The original, cloth surrounds had been coated with what seemed like shellac. They were an orange color, shiny and VERY stiff. Here's my thread on the subject.http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Board/index.php?showtopic=7307
SHOKDU
Typically replacing cloth with foam is considered an upgrade. The same is true for rubber surrounds, foam is often considered an upgrade there as well.
