Shacky
Cracked open the 4X's. Looks like rock wool inside. Seals around woofers were not great so cleaning that up as well as redoing the tweeters will porbably have largest improvement factors.Looks like someone put in 20 OHM L-Pads. are they close enough to 16 to leave alone? I have some left over AP originals from other projects I could stick in. I could tell they weren't original before I openned but thought if they were std 8 OHM I'd go the 25Ohm Resistor route. Now I'm not sure what to do. PO also replaced the brick wax cap with 2 10 OHM Dimie caps. Are they worth leaving in or shoudl I replace?

genek
Most rock wool I've seen over the years has a rougher look than this, with little bits of dark slag mixed in with the fibers. This looks a lot cleaner. Unless the photos are not showing detail, you may have FG there.Photos guide to different brands of fiberglass: http://www.inspectapedia.com/interiors/Fib...ntification.htmPhoto of typical rock wool: http://www.horticulturesource.com/product_...roducts_id=4135'
Shacky
So Gene, what do you think about those 20 OHM pots and Dimie caps?
genek
So Gene, what do you think about those 20 OHM pots and Dimie caps?I'm the wrong person to ask electrical/electronic questions. When I rewired my 3a's I had a color-coded crossover schematic and Roy and Carl still had to hold my hand and walk me through the process. The only thought I have about the pots and caps is that since most all of the control range used happens in the under-5 ohm range, if you keep them you'll just end up using about 20 degrees or so of rotation, and Dave's recent estimate that only 1 in 10 caps that get changed actually need to be changed. Shacky
Figured a way to straighten our those tweeter flanges. I put the tweeter on backwards and tighten the screws, Just the opposite pressure that bent them - tightening too hard against the putty.BTW looks like drivers are from '68.
