Hello to all the fine folks here. I'm a newbie to this

site. I was hoping to find an answer about The large

original advent woofer. Will the original large advent

woofer fit and work in the new large Advent cabinet and

vise versa? I really appreciate the wealth of Advent

knowledge here.

Thanks,

Earsonly

Specs wise it should work fine, however physical fit is a problem.

The old woofer requires a larger hole cutout.

The old woofer frame is thicker and I believe that it will hit the

grill frame.

Thank You, Pete B. Guess I'll have to find some of each to

get this Advent project off the ground. Happiness always,

Welcome William,

You CAN put the all-metal woofers into the original cabinets (make sure you seal them), they will fit.

I haven't tried to put the masonite woofers into the New Advent cabinets because I don't have any New Advent cabinets :^), a situation I have been trying to correct because I would like to assemble a New Advent pair.

Getting a pair of cabinets off eBay has thus far eluded me but someday...

Others, like Pete, have said, however, that the masonites won't fit into the New Advent cabinets (bigger diameter). Also, as Pete stated, the frame of the masonite woofers does stick out further from the speaker board and may hit the grille frame. The all-metal woofer frames fit pretty much flush.

Hi Doug,

Thanks for covering the visa-versa case, yes they do fit New woofer to original box. Someone emailed me off list sometime back asking if the specs were the same, I said yes they are and they should work fine. Then he emailed saying the hole is smaller, I went and tried it myself and he was right. He cut the hole bigger, then I think he emailed again saying that the grill hit. Details, details, LOL!

Pete B.

Hello Doug and thanks for the info. I owned some large

original Advents years ago, was really impressed with

the performance for the price paid. It's no wonder so

many were sold. I have other fine speakers and the

Large Advents either hold their own or just get beat in

some areas. But they never get "trounced" really bad.

Thanks to all the fine folks at this site.
