  1. I'm going to pass because I have found out that the tweeters are HiVi.

I have two pairs of three-quarter inch rebuilt paper mache originals from Chris.

Anyway, they won't work because they are not 4 ohm I guess.

The ones I have are eight ohms and replacements for AR2 ax.

Also, I'm assuming that the current dividing Network has been changed to allow the aftermarket tweeters.

Admittedly 1700 bucks does sound absurd.

I have seen a pair on a Korean auction site go for $2,000.

I have them listed at 1500 and am waiting....

    Have about 600 in them.

  2. There is a guy here locally that has a pair of refurbished 3as and has dropped the price from 1100 to 800.

I offered a pair of University 315c drivers in great shape in exchange for the Acoustic Research speakers and 300 cash.

Looks like they have Hi Vi.

I have two pairs of three-quarter inch original tweeters that are rebuilt by you know who.

    They are 8 ohm, however.

    What say you?

Roy might have to confirm this, but I think I remember him saying that minor ripples in cloth surrounds should not be a big concern.

I had a pair of KLH Model six woofers, one with yellow surrounds and the other surround black. I carefully used Toluene with small foam brush's and paper towels to remove the black back to the yellow color. Then I applied an new coat of sealant. I don't remember it having a adverse effect on the surround glue, but then again it was very careful and went slow.

    This was very helpful.

I have a pair that I used too much stuff on and need to clean it off. I guess I'll get it super soft with toluene and scrape it with something round ended like a popsicle stick.

  4. Yeah, man.

Trial and error on little bits of the goop taught me that toluene is the way to go.

I had one pair that I over applied the material to, have thinned it just a tiny tiny bit so I could put it on more evenly and use two coats based on return speed of the woofer.

Yeah, one needs to be very careful about keeping the material on the cloth only. I have found that thin a bit capillary action will help to spread the material to the edges of the surround.

Also have a pair of 17s and 32s where this stuff was absolutely wonderful, thank you Roy!

  5. Thanks to all of you, especially Roy c, Glenn and Jay!

Others of course, too numerous to mention or even remember!

Rebuilt Sansui 8080, rebuilt Acoustic Research 2ax, Pioneer PL-518 with Pickering XSV 3000.

Have not yet swapped out small black tweeters for red.

I have two pair rebuilt by...you know who.

I had a pretty large piece of the flange missing on one of them, do you know this guy rebuilt it with a 3D printer?

Pardon me for posting with the turntable where it is!

The sound was just so, oh, you know. I simply couldn't help myself.

    XA is being worked on.

    The 2axs?

I have another pair with the RC mods, Hi-Vi, etc.

And yet another pair which are project units that I am going to put the other pair of black tweeters in there along with the cloth surround woofers recently bought.

Which of course will need resealing with RC magic dust, LOL.

As I mentioned Roy, thanks especially to you... And Jay about all of the KLH stuff of which I have three pairs of sixes, one with consecutive numbers.

I'll try to post a video of a piece that I listen to regularly but this time it brought tears to my eyes.

What does "yes, mainly" mean? What exactly is a "Roy C modded" AR speaker? Whatever it is, I'm not sure how you expect to acquire an "outside" opinion from within the forum. :)

    Roy

I'm really looking for anyone's opinion on this, an opinion on how the sound compares with the original . Especially yours, Roy.

I'm sure that you took great pains and spent many, many hours to work up a modification that would as best as possible approximate the original sound. I'm wondering where you think your strengths and weaknesses are in your final application.

I was looking around on some other sites and could not find anything about this customized speaker configuration.

I thought maybe someone could point me in the right direction where I can get more opinions beyond what's available here.

    Maybe AK.

I'll check there for Hi-Vi, etc.

Not to intentionally duplicate the question, but I'm wondering if anyone saw the cloth woofers on eBay?

They seem to be okay and I snap them up as quickly as I saw them for less than $150 delivered.

I'm wondering what they're likely to need beyond gooping.

Vee, your 2ax speakers could have up to three different woofers. The early cloth surround woofer in the middle, the large frame transitional foam surround woofer to the left and the later small frame foam surround woofer to right. Lets identify what you have and go from there.

    Hmmm...

What are the differences between these and which are the most desirable?

What do you guess is the average price used for the ones with the cloth?

  8. The 80 80 is rated at 80 Watts or so period when I had it refurbished and when others have had theirs measured like mine they have measured about 85 or 87. I'm talking RMS.

I have heard that the 9090 measures over 100.

Thatwould probably be about 275 peak or whatever.

I heard somebody say ,,real,, RMS I think.

I may have misread or misunderstood that but that is what I am asking about.

So, is there a real risk of running this at about 50 Watts or over 30 or what?

Hell, I have routinely run it at 70 or 75.

Even with attenuators maxed out and treble control maxed out allbeit for short periods.
