LST II internal wire problem

roundhome

Recommended Posts

Hello ALL

I have stated before that my LST IIs have no tweeters I put one in and it went bad in no time.

I also said that the tweeters are the only thing fused the mids and woofer play without the fuse in the yellow wire with the black strip goes from the end of the fuse to all three tweeters and that is all. This is after the resister and cap that is hooked to the neg terminal. after that cap there are wires going to the fuse and the mids but the mids don't go through the fuse. I have a scematic but it does not have a color code for the wires. Some one else was in the speakers before. but none of the wires seam to have been switched around. first I need the color codes for the mids and tweeters. then I need to figure out the rest of the fuse problem.

Jim, Here is a partial wiring diagram of the LST2's. Would you be kind enough to send me what you have? dald@sbcglobal.net I/m not sure but depending on how the tweeters are wired, it may be possibile that all 3 need to be installed to avoid overpowering just one. Also the LST2's use 8 ohm drivers

Jim, I looked further and you sent me the schematic it seems. Thanks, Dale

I have figured out the color code for the wires.

It is not wires like the diagram I sent you.

the fuse comes out of the switch and only for the tweeters set like this from the factory. that means if a fuse was put into it the size for the whole speaker it would never blow with just the tweeters on it. instead the tweeters would go first . that might be why all the tweeters were bad in these speakers becouse when I put one tweeter in I didn't have to drive it vary hard before it went but it was used. and I don't know the history of it.

I have solved my tweeter problem for now a smaller fuse and adapter plates for seas 8 ohm h-087 tweeters they sound great for now. and look great in there to. plus there are a lot of them out there you can open them up and add faro fluid to them for cooling. and with the screens on them there are no little fingers to poke domes. they are vary soft sounding tweeters not bright .

JIm

thanks anyway dale i'm still not sure why the fuse is wired like this these are front wired LST IIs serial #8449 should I put it back to the diagram to protect the whole speaker or what ?

Jim, You mention some seas 8-ohm h-087 tweeters. Where could I get 6 of them for my LST-2's? Thanks, Dale

Dale check out this ebay # 3094709347 The highest i have had to go is 37.00 for a pair. there are 4ohm and 8 ohm ones they say it on the side but look the same. i'm real impressed with the way they sound. and look. I have not done any tech test on them just my vary poor ears. so get a set and see how you like them.

I cut the rings out of white abs plastic You can use black i allready had this. used black tape around the edge they look fine cut the holes and sealed the rings in. then notched the tweeters ring for the screws so i could get them back out. then glued the tweeters to the ring. most of these tweeters were in dynaco speakers and were only glued in.

its not AR but I was left with no choice with no replacemnts for 8 ohm ones.

they sound vary good.

jim

PS

there are two diferrent wire mesh screens one is wire type the other is staped steel I just watched for the wire mesh ones they looked the best you can also check the dynaco area for tweeters they are the same seas ones.

it did not take me long to get 10 of these off ebay. onec i dicided what I was going to do with my LST IIs for the time being.
