Refinishing 3a Cabinets

Recommended Posts

I have just acquired a pair of 3as (the speakers that I wanted, but couldn't afford in 1976). They sound great, but don't look so hot. Some moron owner in their past appears to have kept a potted plant on one of them, and watered both the plant and the speaker. Result: dark, ringed top of one cabinet with some warping.

I have read the various threads about refinishing speakers, but I've neither the skill nor the confidence to refinish these cabinets myself, hence my question: can anyone refer me to someone reputable who offers a refinishing service?

You might try ARpro on this forum. Larry might do this for you. Dale

Boy, that's a "classic" problem...the leaking flower pot has wrecked many a nice walnut finish. Most of these stains are of the worst possible type - where the same area is wet again and again, and allowed to dry over and over. Because of the nature of the relatively thin veneer, and the prolonged & complete penetration of the water, it's usually impossible to remove all traces of the unsightly discoloration. The good news is that an all-out refinishing usually looks so good, that's it's much easier to live with what remains of the stain. Why don't you post a couple of pictures of the problem area, so that we can get an idea of what you're up against?

Hi there. If you still want the cabinets refinished please wait a few months for me to unpack. I have, direct from AR, a sheet of how to refinish each of their various cabinet finishes. Don't be worried that you may not be an expert. These instructions are very basic and simple. I will be scanning and sending copies to Mark when I've unpacked.

Have a great day.

ps there is only 1 sheet single sided to show you how basic the information is.

>That would be enormously helpful; many thanks.

Contact Larry (Vintage AR) He is usually auctioning on eBay. He offers a refinishing kit. I have never used it but trust his expertise! Dale

Hi there

Please wait for me to get a copy to Mark of AR's " How to Re-finish AR Speakers " to post on this site for free for viewers. I think everyone will be very pleased at AR's efforts to make us, the users able to follow very simple instructions. Have a great day.
