Guest m d
hello friends,i have a pair of ar-3a mahogany speakers that i took out of storage. my granddad bought them many years ago.they sound very muffled like the crossover is doing something funny or maybe the tweeter isn't tweeting and the cabinets aren't getting enough juice.any ideas? does this sound familiar to anyone? ar_pro
Yep...almost certainly the midrange & tweeter level controls are corroded. There are many posts here regarding how to clean or replace the pots, but first try rotating them back and forth, and try to find a spot that's not "dead". Also be sure that your tweeter jumper wire is in place!
Guest m d
thanks for the reply. i poked around here and layne audio and other links and i see that this is not unusual for these speakers after 30 years.i'll probably sell them as-is on ebay since i am not any good at soldering and wiring.
