roundhome
I have been talking with an old tech here . he has the shop to rework the mids and try some tweeters if I can get him a dead tweeter and a back wired mid face plate I have a magnet he can used for the mid. If anyone has some specs such as wire diameter and # of wraps for the 4 ohm and 8 ohm. that would help to. we can just count the wraps and measure the wire.shiming the tweeter won't hard what type of glue foam was used and can we still get it,or something that will work. the trick on the tweeters will be placing the coil the correct depth in the gap.He is willing to take on a lot of drivers but would like to work up time and cost so that it is fair to all. plus the first ones need to be tested by someone that can A B them with good ones. Just a idea that could help us all keep at least the bee but mid in place. I have one tweeter mag but no dome or coil in it.Jim
ninohernes
Sometime in january, I will be getting new midranges and tweeters for my AR-3's, the ones that are in them now are shot. You are welcome to have them once I get the new ones.

I also have a few mids that need repair. I understand the tweeters are very difficult to rework. I have an idea that some of these are bad from broken voice coil leads due to careless removal of the tape when removing them. Let me know? Dale in Reno..... The tweeters could probably be made to produce sound, but I doubt that it would be possible to replicate anything near the original. Even AR was unable to make service replacement parts for some of the drivers, years after some models were discontinued. Things such as this are rarely as simple as they seem, and this is one of the reason that you don't see many "voice-coil-rewinding" services out there for midrange and tweeters as in the case of woofers. As they say, this might be "a beautiful hypothesis slain by an ugly fact."--Tom Tyson
