Front Mounted 3A Wires

One of the 3A's that I am working with has had the wire to the mid repaired, it looks quite sloppy and I am sure that it needs to be dealt with. It lead me to wonder why the wires that directly connect to drivers are always quite small gauge. I assume that this is not a coincidence but don't really know the reason. On the second photo, the arrow points to the section of wire that was spliced to join what I believe is the original wire. Do I need to remove the splice and put new wiring in?

Also, it is easy to see that the mesh screen on the mid has been glued in place. Does this need attention or does it bother me only because it looks so very bad?
