Guest dogmeninreno
I have been informed that there are 2 types of the 10" woofer that will work in the AR5 but only one type will work in the LSTII's? Which is the correct one for the LSTII's and what is the reason for the distinction? Thanks, Dale in Reno.....

I believe that by the time the LST/2 was introduced AR had "standardized" on the same 10-inch woofer. All the LST/2s I have seen have the flat dust cover and the AR-2ax-style cone. It is the early AR-5 woofer with the convex dust cap that doesn't work ideally in the AR-2ax due to the AR-2ax's higher crossover frequency. SteveF might know more detail on this part, as he is extremely knowledgeable about the AR-2ax series and the LSTs.If you find the 10-inch woofer with a flat dust cap, it will really work fine in any of the 10-inch-series AR speakers.--Tom Tyson
roundhome
HELLO I understand the cone difference I have several different part numbers for them all. But would it be a good idea to mix the two diferent magnet styles. What is the differance of the early open magnet woofer and the later flat square magnet? The AR part #s as of 1979 were 6 hole 10" woofer ( 2,2a,2ax) 8207002-0 then the 10" woofer for the 4 hole (2ax,8,12,14) 120004-2Then the 10" 4 hole for the (5,LSTII) 1200004-3,In 1992 They changed it, the 6 hole was 1207002-0and the rest used a 1200004-2(2ax,8,12,14,5,LSTII)both the 1200004-3 and the 1200004-2 are the new style square magnet 8 ohm four bolt type.Jim

Thanks, DaleDale,To answer that question, yes. The only real problem -- and it is a minor one at best -- is using the earliest-version AR-5 woofer (the one with the convex dust cap) in the AR-2ax with its higher crossover; but in any case, this is not what you are asking. Also, it is also probably best not to mix the pole-piece magnet version with the later ceramic versions, although these woofers measure very close to the same. Use the same vintage woofer for each speaker. Therefore, all of the 4-bolt, 10-inch woofers, regardless of the magnet type, are compatible with the AR-5 and AR-LST/2. They are all 8-ohm drivers, too. --Tom Tyson
