Mafia1976
I have recently got a pair of AR-6 only the rear of the speakers are very different!! One has a switch for flat response etc the other has a pot?? Any ideas would be appreciated. Both drivers now removed & both say AR6 on the square magnet... Thank you in advance. genek
The one with the pot is an earlier version.
Mafia1976
Oh right thank you. So will they both be the same sound so to speak if I refurbish the surrounds & leave both in the middle?
ra.ra
The good news is that you have two original AR-6 woofers - - I believe the very early 6's had an alnico magnet, but the square ceramic magnet that you have is more typical - - - I'd be curious to know what the part numbers are (for both woofers and tweeters).genek is correct that the pot is the earliest version, and I think this was followed by a three-position switch and then a two-position switch. The pot version has a 10 mf cap and two coils, while I think the switched models may have had one coil and no coil (on the Euro version). Some tweeters were front wired; some rear wired.Attach some pics if you can.
genek
Couldn't say exactly, have never heard the later version. But the continuously variable control of the older model should enable you to tune out any difference you may hear between it and the newer one.
