Pete B
Working on some VMPS speakers here and came across this discussion:http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=53843.0Several here have mentioned LvR demos but I don't think this one wasincluded. I didn't hear it so I have no comment on how it was done.
Zilch
It doesn't appear that they made the recordings anechoically; if not, it couldn't possibly have worked worth a whit....

But this is on topic here because you guys are planning on staging one like it when you've done your next "mods, tweaks and upgrades to the Classics" project...right? Now you're sounding like all the AR guys here, LOL!It was in a very large room and the results would depend onmicrophone distance. This is a very complicated subject, andif you were not there it is really difficult to make any definitivestatements.I have to tell you Zilch, blanket statements like this come acrossas a bit like trolling for a debate.David Smith on the topic:http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Boar...amp;#entry84654

The test was not double blind so that could easily have been what hethought going into the demo and simply used it as _his_ excuse for why it sounded recorded in his opinion. As I said previously, this is a very complex subject.

soundminded
Consider the dearth of conflicting opinion.... Score one for Zzzzzzzzz.I went on VMPS web site. They'd have been crowing about it if the LvR demo had worked well. Didn't even get a mention. Must have bombed. Four ribbon midranges, one ribbon tweeter, five 6 1/2" AS woofers with response down -3db at 70 hz and prices start at $8900. Imagine what they'd charge for a real speaker Two photos show two different subwoofers...presumably that costs extra. The mids and tweeters fire through a long thin vertical slit which is how it achieves wide lateral dispersion. Now that is what diffraction is about. Big and expensive, it reminds me a little of the TOTL Von Schweikert. VMPS also has a rear firing tweeter you can switch in or out. Looks like they couldn't make up their mind what they wanted.
genek
Mods, Tweaks and Upgrades to the Classics is not the new "CSP generic tech talk" forum.Last chance: somebody start tying this discussion to the forum topic or it's going to go away.
