Guest Davros1
Just new to the board from Australia. Saw an ad in the paper for a secondhand set of AR 915 speakers and could find no reference on this site about this model. Is this a cheap knockoff(or White Van Special for our posters from the UK) for markets like Asia, South Africa and Australia. They are being sold for $90. Please help!! draftingmonkey
Do a search of the AR forum. They did make them and there is mention of them in a couple of posts. Made I believe in the Teledyne era. Can't tell you much more but others more knowledgable will be chiming in. Give them time.
Robert_S
Hello,The AR-915 is an excellent loudspeaker. It's basically an AR-91 (same drivers), without the beveled corners on the top sides of the enclosure, and it has no level controls (which gives the advantage of easier maintenance).I've read a post here which stated that the AR-915 had a "fake wood" finish; all the 915s that I have seen, share the same "hand-rubbed, furniture-grade, oiled-walnut surface" (top and sides), as visible on the AR-9, 90 & 91.This topic briefly discusses the AR-915:http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Boar...p?showtopic=861For AR-91 related discussion (also applicable to the 915), see:http://www.classicspeakerpages.net/IP.Boar...?showtopic=1331Recommended!Robert_SEdit: The AR-915 cabinet was available in either furniture-grade oiled-walnut veneer, or vinyl finish.
