Cartridge Help

HI,

I have a Technics quartz direct drive turntable (model SD33- Q something).I would like to get a new cartridge for it. The cartridge I have now is a Shure Presence 4, a low end Shure that originally came with the unit.

I'm having difficulty finding a local dealer of such equipment, so I've been searching on the internet.

The turntable arm accepts a 4 prong cartridge that one simply plugs into the end of the arm (very easy). Is this what is referred to as a "universal p mount"? Most of the cartridges I've looked at say "fits universal p mount or 1/2 inch standard"

On my turntable arm, once you plug in the cartridge, there is a small Phillips head screw/pin that runs thru the tone arm, across the back end of the cartridge housing. This locks the cartridge in place.

What I can't tell by looking at any of the pictures on the internet is whether the cartridge is set up for this kind of locking screw. Most of the pictures show the front of the cartridges and not the back.

I'm afraid to buy and then find out it won't fit. I looked at the Audio Technica AT440ml and some Shure models like the 97E and a few others in the $80 - $100 range.

Any recommendations for cartridges would be appreciated along with any help to ease my fears as to whether the thing will fit my turntable.

thanks,

Bill

Try the Stanton L720EE which is a P-mount and comes with a 1/2" adaptor. Available from Parts Express for $35.
