Guest tom h
This weekend I will be installing re-edged/re-foamed woofers & lower-midrange drivers back into the AR9 cabinets, and I will be using the 3M Strip-Caulk as the sealant. The original woofer backside seal was completely flattened, had lost resiliency, and was probably not working 100% efficiently.Do the AR9's upper-midrange & tweeter also require good sealing to the cabinet?? As long as I'm at it, I could apply new sealant to their backsides.Or should I leave the upper range drivers alone, and not mess with them?TIA. ar_pro
Originally, the drivers had thin, foam gaskets, and if they've never been removed, they're probably just fine - you could try torquing them down, just a bit, but don't over-tighten!I've used GE black silicone caulk with fine results, when replacing the upper mid & the tweeter. Guest tom h
I found the original gaskets looked awfully squished, especially relative to some uncompressed edges of the gasket. Since the speakers were on their backs, anyway, I substituted 3M Strip-Caulk for the gaskets. Should be good for another 25 years
