TommyBoy
I didn't see a forum thread for Jensen or Westinghouse so I am posting here in the Acoustic Research thread. I hope there aren't any objections. Full Disclosure: I am selling a speaker and need help marketing it. It is not currently listed for sale anywhere on the internet. it was recently acquired (April 2023). I know enough about speakers to recognize this one is rare and has value. Not my first Rodeo with speakers but probably only my 20th or so. Compared to some of you I am likely a comparative rookie. I am a picker by trade. It is what I do full time. We (I) don't always hit pay dirt when we speculate on 'LOTS" that we bid upon, but this time I did fairly well. It helps make up for the many times I don't. It's my full time job, so the proceeds will go to bills and the running of the business, not a vacation. I'm hoping I can receive advice on where the best auction place would be to sell....what the best price is I should hope for...whether on not I should have a reserve minimum...suggestions on maybe better ways to sell it than a typical auction...would this be a good site upon which to make it available? I'm grateful for anyone willing to give time and help out. I've been selling on eBay for 20 or so years (ten full time). I sell everything from vintage film cameras to mid century furniture and yes occasionally stereo equipment. I've come across (and sold) vintage Ampex amps, Various brand R2Rs, Tannoy Dual Concentrics, etc.. I know how to test voice coils and provide enough photos for interested parties, but from what I've gathered over the last few days of reading, this Jensen 18" is not sold frequently enough for the marketing 'norms' to apply. I don't get nice things like this to sell overly frequently so I want to do it right. I did see that a pair sold back in 2010 for $10,000.00. Is a speaker like this appreciating in value or depreciating...and/or...was that 10K price just a one-off? This is the second forum I am posting on. I posted on one yesterday and hoped for a response overnight and received nothing. Hopefully I won't need to reach out any further into the community for good advice. The internet said that other forum was in the top 20 for audiophile forums. Thanks in advance for your consideration. No TommyBoy is not my real name but I've been told I resemble the on-screen character and occasionally also Benny Hill...I decided on TommyBoy since most youngn's won't know who BH is. Provenance: For what it's worth, the original owner of the speaker was a President of The 'Acoustical Society of America' during the 70s. I can share a little more with the eventual owner, though the information is limited as it is with most private estate sales. I only happen to know his name because included with the lot I purchased was an award he received. Attached are photos. Should I need to upload more, I can.
