  1. Congrats you acquired the nice AR-3 speakers with the low serial number, in my own thinking : since the drivers are in original ( likes most of the Vietnamese liked '' cầu nổi, or AR 1 woofer ..) except a part of this pair is fake ,,,,, the serial number ( fake reprint the serial tag, remake the grills,) otherwise all the drivers are in original..
  2. Hi Lakecat, Congrats you have a nice set of MAC Amp and pre-amp matching up with the LST speakers. Hope you enjoy it for a long time, BTW do you have any experience if the MC MX-113 or MX-112 hooking up with the MC 2105 or 2205, do they sound ok, accepted...? how do they compare with the MC MX-117....? 8/10....?
  3. Thanks Mr Tom, Admin, IARrybody for all the valuable inputs, @ IARrybody, If you want to get these 3's, I think you must compete against the Oversea bidders that they are very serious interested in collected the AR3's with low serial numbers and ready to pay very high price for them, predicting the winner of this pair will pay up to 3.5$K ( Recently ,the two AR3's pairs with low serial sold on fleabay over 3 grands) 1.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Pair-Acoustic-Research-AR-3-Loudspeakers-Alnico-Magnet-AR3-Low-Serial/123688070541?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT 2.https://www.ebay.com/itm/Acoustic-Research-AR-3-Loudspeakers-PLUG-PLAY-Early-Alnico-AR3-AR1-Worldwide/183719466339?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Look back at the #1 picture of my 1st post , that the stripey texture on the side of the right speaker look likes to be the korina veneer,( because the missing a piece of paper on both of the speakers , so not sure if the KORINA stamped on both of the missing pieces paper...?) I just checked on 9 speaker with Birch finished and none of them has the stripey texture likes the pair above. As I see all of the 9 Birch finished speaker that has the kind of small spiral texture....
  4. Hi Folks! I had heard the discussions about the rare of the AR-3 with korina finished cabinets veneer over on this Forum before and never seen one with korina veneer over the NET. Today I just saw one AR3s pair appeared on the eBay ( Serial # C 4057 & C 4031) that look likes Korina veneer but not sure, Thanks in advance for any opinions.. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Early-AR3-Acoustic-Suspension-Loudspeaker-Pair-Vintage-Sound-Great/153426112247?hash=item23b8e8aef7:g:NbQAAOSw-6Bcljk5
  5. Yes Sonnar, the corrected A-B test when both the speaker are new , and now both of them were used ,the Caps of each pair works fine but may be not in the same or equal condition. So the test is just for discussion , not count... Yeah Luigi, I was using the Smart phone to record the video clip my self, the phone recorded poorly in MIC function, It didn't capture all the sound from the speaker, I heard live from the speaker so loud but when recorded and play back It sounds only 60-70 % comparing to the real speaker's sound.
  6. Couple testing video clips between AR3 and AR3a that hooked up to the same receiver, same turning volume... etc, speaker switching system A and B. My ears are not very good to recognize which one is better.
  7. So sad when heard your father's early AR3s that It has been long gone, otherwise you have been owned a very early nice pair with ''gold thread grilles'' to now. Thanks Sonnar for all the INFO.
  8. Hi Sonnar! How is the condition of your father's ar3 speaker currently,, still original or recapped? How does It sound after 50 years plus, do you have any PIC of his early one, I am wondering have you ever asked him about your two pairs recapped how do they sound now if comparing to the time It was new in 1960s, 8 over 10 or 9.5/10 etc.
