have decided to bypass the pots on my 3's, after removing them and carefully cleaning them both of the mids still dont work, did notice some cracking on the porciline as well. i did go to my hi-fi guy and he said to bypass them since they are are to find being 4ohm resistors, question is how to do it properly, is a jumper soldered across them or are they removed? thanks for any input,

The controls are 16-ohm, not 4-ohm. If you bypass them, you will not be able to get the right balance for the speaker; but if you have no choice, bad balance is better than no sound. I'd try to locate some other AR controls before bypassing them. You can bypass the tweeter and let it run wide open, but the midrange is better set to the mid position on most versions of the AR-3.

Phillydog, I think you should keep the AR3a's as built. If you want to pay the in/out freight I will clean the pots and lube them for you free and replace the ceramic if needed. They will work as new when you get them back. All you need to do is make a Paypal donation to Mark's forum. Dale. dald@sbcglobal.net

I forgot to mention that you need to unsolder and remove the pots before sending but I'm sure you figured that out...Dale
