morkys
I just bought a nice pair of A100 II's with paper cone woofers. The back of the speaker says explicitly series II. Upon inspection the woofers have square magnets and a sticker that says Nov 24. 1982. Were there A100 series II with paper woofers? I thought the series II had poly woofers. These speakers have been re-foamed and the work looks like it was done well. The woofers move freely and smoothly. The speakers sound great, although I am still working on getting the smoothest bass out of them. My room is a master bedroom and it's not the best shape. I guess performance depends a lot on placement? Is it possible the speakers need more attention to placement and/or need to be worked in? Is it possible there is an issue with the old crossover? Is it possible that I am being too picky with these older speakers? I am powering the speakers with a Marantz SR 7000. The avr is good for music as avr's go and doesn't sound the same with the A400's or my PSB speakers.Other Boston Acoustics speakers I have heard are the A70 II's with the poly woofers which I owned for many years, my A400's and A40 II's and a pair of A150's I owned briefly. My av home theatre has PSB image speakers.
