projectman
I have a pair of APL-801 speakers from Applied Physics Laboratory and am trying to find out anything I can about them. The main question is are these any good? They have an 8" woofer and a plastic 3 1/2" square horn tweeter. I've not opened the boxes (yet). but would like to get these back into operating condition. There is a capacitor across two terminals on the back for "tweeter attenuation" - apparently so the value of the attenuation could be changed without opening the case. There is a bit of scratching sound when the cone is depressed so apparently something is making contact inside - the speaker surround looks to be in good shape but I know looks don't mean much sometimes. They sound ok, but certainly not great. Any thoughts about my next moves with these babies?
