hi,

i have a pair of ar9's i found that i want to recap.

i have not done this before and was wondering what some of the more experienced guys here think.

find some detailed diagrams and instructions and

just do it?

or, find someone who knows what they're doing.

any advice or pointing in the right direction of would be appreciated.

If you perform a search, you should find a wealth of information from previous discussions regarding your question. You can also find excellent schematics of the crossovers in the library.

Good luck, feel free to tell us how it goes and ask questions along the way.

Are the speakers worth the effort? They absolutely are!!!!

You can also find excellent schematics of the crossovers in the library.

Don't just rely on the schematics found on the web. Double check by removing your cross overs and tracing the actual circuit implemented.

Check out http://www.own-initiative.com/~owniniti/Mi...R94_Rebuild.htm for some stuff on another AR speaker.

I am about to recap my AR9 - I wasn't planning to but then I opened up my woofer and saw two caps and two inductors torn off their moorings...!

Cost is a major issue. I calculated about usd 600 total for all caps (mis of polyprops and electrolytics). This involves re-using the old inductors and resistors. To replace resistors with nice wirewounds add another USD100. Add another USD100 for good quality cabling.

4uF t $13 - each price if for a pair of Clarity SA caps

6uF t $21

24uF umr $47

40uF umr $76

6uF umr $21

80uF lmr $152

30uF lmr $56

2500uF w $120 for pair of electrolytic caps

470uF w $100 for pair of electrolytic caps

Total $606

One thing you will get is a change in the overall resistance and so you may have to mess with adding or removing resistance. This means re-opening the speaker. I have have decided to outboard my cross over - just to avoid the hassle.

Good luck.
