Guest
In the 1970s, Heathkit sold the Altec Lansing Valencia speaker in kit form as the AS101. The speakers are 30" high, 27" wide, and 20" deep, and weigh 120 pounds each. They have a 15" woofer and a 800 herz horn.Does anyone know what the Valencia model number was for these speakers? Thanks,Rolf Dekleerrolf.dekleer@growthworks.ca

soundminded
These downsized versions of the famous Voice of the Theater had the typical "West Coast Sound." How quaint to view the idiosycnracies of loudspeakers of an era by classifying them as East Coast and West Coast as if there was a preference for the kind of frequency response distortion people preferred based on geographical location. But that's how no one less than Sams Audio Reference put it. From the perspective of time all you can say is "wrong is wrong."
Guest
Some people used to call East Coast sound "constipated" - that is, just dying to get out! The horns used by Altec Lansing sounded bigger than life. Just listen to the first few minutes of the 1812 Overture on Altec's vs. any East Coast speaker.
