Guest Marvin G
I have a 24 year old pair of CIZEK Model 1's for a secondary system in the basement. The woofer cones on each speaker have deteriorated.I removed them easily, and now want to replace them.I suspect I will never get the same part/design, so will any 10" repalcement woofer 'work'? Is there something in particular I should look for? I will not be doing any serious listening on these units ..there just for background music. Just want something that will fit, work with the crossover/tweeter, and will sound respectable. Any ideas would be appreciated. My last resort, is, dare I say, Radio Shack..See: http://www.radioshack.ca/estore/Product.as...product=4001036Many thanksMarvin GlovenToronto, Ontario CANADA.marvin.gloven@rogers.com
Guest bk
Is the problem just the foam surrounds? If so, I would highly recommend replacing these and keeping the stock woofers. It's a simple and very rewarding project. Here's one source of foam that I've used recently. Just measure carefully and you should be good to go. Guest Marvin G
Hi -Not sure what a 'foam surround' is, so I am unclear as to what your suggesting.... can you elaborate? The part thats deteriorated on my speakers is the inner paper surface itself, ie from the rim toward the centre, for about 50% of the circumfrances. Looks as if a pet would be eating at it.Also, did you intend to include a link in your previous post?ThanksMarvin
Guest bk
Ooooops, I did intend to include a link to re-foam kits. It sounds like it's not the solution, though. If the paper cone is gone, you need "re-coning", which is a much bigger deal (and maybe impossible because of lack of factory parts). I'll include the foam link here anyway, along with a link to some inexpensive new woofers. Good luck.http://www.speakerworks.net/kits.htmlhttp://www.speakerworks.net/woofers_midranges_tweeters.html
Guest bk
One more possibility that comes to mind is to look for 10" woofers from AR speakers like the 2ax. I don't know for sure, but I bet they're similar to Cizek. Here are a couple of examples from ebay. There are two versions you'll run into. The links show newer versions with foam surrounds. Earlier versions have cloth surrounds and 6 mounting holes instead of 4.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=5718854890http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...item=5719031611
Guest Marvin G
Now that I know more, I stand corrected. The paper cone itself is fine - its just the foam surround ( I now know what that means).I have no intention of repairing them though (to hard to find for me someone, and its equally hard from me to find a replacement woofer).I'm simply going to get a new set of speakers. So I guess these Cizek Model 1's classics are now for sale to anyone who wants to get the foam surrounds repaired...or needs orginal spare parts. Any interest?Marvin
