Guest sfox52
I'm a new member, just got a pair of New Advent Utility speakers, vintage 1980. As expected, the woofers need refoaming(kits coming from looneytunes on eBay). What I didn't expect was one tweeter's diaphragm is damaged-probably by a curious kid poking something thru the screen. There's a hole torn on the center dome area. Should I just look for another "orange fried egg" tweeter, or is it possible to repair?
jackfish
I would look on eBay for a pair New Large Advent or Advent/1 tweeters and replace them both. There are some slight differences in iterations of these tweeters and it is probably easiest to just replace them both instead of trying to determine and then match impedence.Pair of Advent Tweeters on eBayThe other option is the newer 1" dome replacement from Layne Audio. http://layneaudio.hypermart.net/Advent.htm These require a little modification to the tweeter opening in the cabinets. But they sound really good.
