Advent Loudspeaker Placement

Am the lucky recipient of a pair of "The Advent Loudspeaker". Was wondering the best placement for the quote-unquote over-sized bookshelf speakers?

Literature from my Carver amplifier suggests a bookshelf should have the lowest bass driver placed level with the listener's ear. May be a trick with these cabinets. (*grin*)

Also placement from backwall. Normally I've gone 12 to 14 inches away from a wall. Recently moved to an older house with a heavy plaster over dry-wall. It kills drill bits dead, but is more reflective and less friendly with low-end.

Looking forward to warming these babies up.

I wonder if Carver's suggestion was intended to improve the audible bass in usually small, weak bass bookshelf type speakers?

My suggestion would be to give priority to getting the tweeter pointing at the listening ear position to optimize your listening experience. The bass in this larger speaker will take care of itself. You may also need to give the room some sound absorbing treatment to attenuate reflections. Experiment with distance from the wall. That's an easy one to optimize.

Enjoy!
