Never used AR4x walnut

I was recently given a pair of AR 4x walnut cabnit speakers that my father purchased back in 1969. Up to two weeks ago they have been sitting in my father's closet in there original boxes. The manual only says the min. watts required as does the old product catalog. I was wondering if anyone knows what I should use to drive these. Also if anyone has any more info on these please let me know thanks.

Great find!... I have a pair of 4xs, and although I'm not using them presently, have always found them easy to listen to. I've driven mine with everything from a 12 wpc tube amp. (just adequate) to a 60 watt solid state (over kill). As always, what you should use will depend on the program material and how loud you want it.

However, I'd be careful with higher powered amps if you are listening to material with wide dynamics at loud levels. That old cone tweeter is crossed over relatively low (below 1500 hz if my memory is correct) and I don't think it will stand up to much abuse...

Jim.
