KLH Model Twenty Three tweeters

Hello all,

I just bought a pair of these over the weekend at a moving sale, and yes you know the rest of the story. The girl says they sound great, but upon getting home and hooking them up the woofers do sound great but I find both tweeters to be inop.

Is the 3 position high control switch on the back anything like the AR pots where they need routine cleaning, or am I most likely looking at new tweets? If so, given that you don't see many 23's, next question is are there tweeters from any other KLH's that are interchangeable? These are marked "M-12".

Thanks,

Ed

Hi Ed

We don't usually find the switches defective, unless they're frozen in a position, or they won't switch to one of the other positions.

Flipping them back and forth, gently, a few times will clean the contacts.

There may be a very, very, remote possiblity that the leads in the cabinet may have fallen off a contact.

Are there inline fuses which should be checked?

Reverse channels to the speakers.

There is a very, very, remote possibility that both of the capacitors are bad.

Last but not least, they may be blown, but before giving up do follow up each step.

Last of all remove the tweeters from their enclosure, test with a VOM across just the tweeters naked terminals, if there is zero ressistance reading, the voice coil is probably burnt, you would need new tweeters then.

More advice from others to follow, I am sure.

Good luck.
