Hi everyone, I'm João Quintão and I'm from Portugal. I'm quite new here and what brouhgt me this forum is that I need help.

I recently bouhgt a pair "AR 66 BX Digital monitoring system" loudspeakers. They were made in England.

I've looked every where but I don't find a clue to this speakers specifications, manufacturing date or other type of info.

This are 81cm tall, 37 large and 33 long; heavy with 30kg, and beutifully veneered, although a bit miss cared.

You may find some pictures below attached to this post.

Any information would be most welcome. Thank you for looking, kind regards to all,

João

These appear to be quite similar to the American Connoisseur Series 50's. Those speakers date from the 1986-ish time frame, and had a 12" woofer (with the classic flat-sided frame, as in your picture), a 6 1/2" midrange, and 1" metal (titanium) dome tweeter.

However, where the American Connoisseurs had gold-plated triamp (what a waste!) terminals and 1"-thick cabinet walls, yours have conventional single-input plastic binding posts and the cabinet sides appear to be 19mm (3/4") thick.

The BX designation just mislead me to the older BX post classic series.

Thank you Steve, it is the American Connoisseur 50 without doubt, but with another name, problably adapted to the european market. The binding posts are just the same as the "printed in England" arquive in www.classicspeakers.com, and by no means the thickness is less than 1". So thank you for your trouble, you just solved my problem.

When ever I get this AR66BX restored, I'll post it in this forum.

Hello again,

I have a dead tweeter!! I've opened it up, checked the filaments were right and not burned, no problems with the dome or the magnet. Just puzzling. Do any of you know what could be the problem?

Thank you,

João

Hello

I'am living in Denmark and I am the proud owner of a pair of AR66BX which I bought about 25 years ago. I have recently discovered that my speakers are worn, and that the 12'' woofer and the 6.5'' midrange need new foaming. The tweeter needs replacement. I am in the process of rejuvenating the speakers.

Since then I have googled for info, and found this very informed site. Lot of thanks to the good people who takes the time to keep it up and running.

This site has technical info and diagrammes on some of the speakers, but no electrical diagram on the AR66BX. Does anyone have one?

My speakers:

12'' woofer, part number AR 12100032

6.5'' midrange, the part number AR 1210078-0B

1'' tweeter, titanium dome, part number 95-6520 116 8 ohm Made in W. Germany. This must have been before unification of Germany 1990.

Does anyone know the german manufacturer, or knows of a replacement tweeter that has the form, fit and function?

Thanks

Hawk

Hi Hawk, I have a working pair of the tweeters you describe above. They were put into a pair of AR93s before I purchased them. I have removed them and replaced with original drivers. I would be happy to sell them. You can contact me outside the forum at billygoatgruff@westnet.com.au.
